Comedian Kim Seung-hye Shocked by Low Pregnancy Odds

Comedian Kim Seung-hye recently expressed her shock upon learning about her low chances of pregnancy during a prenatal check-up. On May 15, she shared a video on her YouTube channel titled 'I Learned the Reality After My Prenatal Check-Up (A Must-Watch for Those in Their 30s!)'.

In the video, Kim visited a health center for prenatal tests that she had missed due to her busy schedule before marriage. After undergoing basic blood tests and antibody screenings, she proceeded to a gynecologist. The specialist informed her that her egg count was average for a 38-year-old, while the quality of her eggs was comparable to that of a 37-year-old, indicating no immediate issues.

However, when discussing her pregnancy odds, the doctor explained, "Since you are over 35, the quality of your eggs is directly related to your age. Considering just your age, the probability of getting pregnant significantly decreases, with only a 5% chance of a successful pregnancy each month."

Kim was taken aback by this revelation, stating, "This is shocking," as she struggled to hide her surprise. The doctor further elaborated that after age 35, only 39% of eggs are healthy, meaning that out of ten eggs, four are normal while six may have abnormalities. This leads to difficulties in conceiving and a higher risk of miscarriage, ultimately reducing birth rates.

Still reeling from the news, Kim expressed her feelings in the car, saying, "I’m not laughing right now. I’m in tears. I feel betrayed by my age. I thought I was fine. I’ve been playing soccer for three years and thought my mental age was lower than others."

Upon returning home, she shared her test results with her husband, Kim Hae-jun, and shed tears, saying, "It’s not that I can’t get pregnant, but the odds have decreased significantly. Let’s try together."

The following day, while speaking with fellow comedian Oh Na-mi, Kim reflected, "As I approach 40, I feel it’s time to focus on pregnancy rather than soccer. I realize I haven’t adequately prepared for pregnancy."

Kim Seung-hye and Kim Hae-jun tied the knot in October last year after a year of dating.
