The operator of the YouTube channel '탈덕수용소' (De-Idolization Shelter), known for posting false videos about K-pop stars like IVE's Jang Wonyoung and BTS's V and Jungkook, reportedly used the channel's earnings to purchase real estate. Attorney Jeong Kyung-seok, who successfully brought the operator to court, warned that this could lead to financial ruin for the individual.

Jeong, who has been pursuing legal action against the operator for spreading false information about Jang Wonyoung, noted that many victims of the channel's fake news had previously been unable to take legal action due to the operator's anonymity. The channel had been charging up to 600,000 KRW per month for paid memberships while mocking and belittling celebrities, which Jeong referred to as a "profit-driven defamation business."

Despite making 37 requests to domestic law enforcement to identify the operator, Jeong faced repeated failures, as obtaining YouTube user information required cooperation from Google's U.S. headquarters. Google stated that personal information could only be disclosed with a U.S. court order.

To secure this order, Jeong collaborated with a local law firm to find similar precedents and utilized the 'discovery process' to compel the U.S. court to order the release of information necessary for the lawsuit. After the court reviewed the translated false news about Jang Wonyoung, it recognized the seriousness of the situation and ordered Google to disclose the operator's information.

However, the '탈덕수용소' channel was suddenly deleted after Google notified the operator that their information had been requested. Jeong expressed concern that the deletion might result in the loss of crucial information. Fortunately, Google retained account information, allowing Jeong to obtain the operator's name, address, and account details.

The information provided by Google included two names and addresses, leading Jeong to verify the identity through official documents in South Korea. Ultimately, he felt a sense of accomplishment in finally identifying the anonymous operator and bringing them to court.

In January of last year, a civil lawsuit filed by Jang Wonyoung resulted in a court ruling that ordered the operator, identified as Park, to pay 100 million KRW. This marked the beginning of investigations and legal proceedings against Park.

During the trial, Park claimed that the videos were posted for public interest and that he believed they were true. However, he was also charged with defamation against Jang Wonyoung and received a two-year prison sentence with a three-year probation in the first trial. The prosecution has since appealed, and the second trial is ongoing.

In the appeal regarding the damages lawsuit filed by Jang Wonyoung, the compensation amount was reduced to 50 million KRW. Separately, Jang's agency, Starship Entertainment, is pursuing its own damages lawsuit against Park, which is currently in the first trial stage.

Additionally, Park was fined 10 million KRW for posting false videos about singer Kang Daniel and ordered to pay 30 million KRW in damages to him. He also faces a court ruling to pay 76 million KRW to Big Hit Music and BTS's V and Jungkook, bringing his total liabilities to over 100 million KRW.

Jeong revealed that he is in the process of recovering funds from Park, having discovered that Park purchased a villa with the earnings from his channel. Jeong has informed law enforcement and initiated a property seizure to ensure that Park fulfills his compensation obligations. He noted that Park may need to sell the villa or take out a loan to meet these obligations.

Jeong emphasized that previously, the fines for such crimes were often less than the profits made, allowing offenders to continue their actions. However, he stated that now all criminal profits are being seized, and offenders must also pay fines in addition to their compensation obligations.
