Chung Mong-joon Inducted into K League Hall of Fame

Chung Mong-joon (74), the honorary president of the Korea Football Association, has been inducted into the K League Hall of Fame. The Korea Professional Football League announced on July 1 that Chung is among six individuals honored in the '2nd K League Hall of Fame'.

Chung led the Korea Professional Football League from its establishment in 1994 until 1998. During his tenure, he implemented significant changes, including the introduction of a title sponsorship system for the K League, the expansion to a 10-team structure, and the establishment of a regional affiliation system. Additionally, he served as the president of the Korea Football Association from 1993 to 2009, successfully hosting the 2002 FIFA World Cup co-held with Japan. The Korea Professional Football League recognized his contributions to the systematic development of the K League and Korean football by inducting him into the contributor category of the Hall of Fame. In the inaugural Hall of Fame in 2023, the late Park Tae-joon, honorary chairman of POSCO, was also honored in the contributor category.

The player category inductees include the late Yoo Sang-chul, Kim Byung-ji (55), Kim Joo-sung (59), and Dejan (44, Montenegro). In the coaching category, former manager Kim Ho (81), who ranks third in all-time K League wins with 208 victories, was also honored.
