Chun Sun-ran's 'A Thousand Blues' Set to Become Hollywood Film

The science fiction novel 'A Thousand Blues' (천 개의 파랑) by author Chun Sun-ran (천선란), aged 32, is being adapted into a Hollywood film. The story revolves around the friendship and solidarity between a humanoid jockey named 'Colly' and a racehorse named 'Today'. According to Hubble, the literary brand of East Asia Publishing, 'A Thousand Blues' has secured a film adaptation deal with Warner Bros. Pictures, a major American production company known for global hits like the 'Harry Potter' and 'Dune' series. Warner Bros. has announced plans to collaborate with promising directors such as Celine Song, Greta Gerwig, and Alfonso Cuarón for the screenplay development. While the exact financial details remain undisclosed, the rights fee is reported to be between 600 million to 700 million KRW. Chun Sun-ran began her literary career with the release of her debut novel 'The Collapsed Bridge' in 2019. 'A Thousand Blues', published in 2020, won the Grand Prize at the 4th Korean Science Fiction Literature Awards and has sold over 200,000 copies domestically. The rights have been sold to more than ten countries, including the United States, Japan, Germany, Taiwan, China, and the United Kingdom. Prior to its film adaptation, the novel was also staged as a performance last year by the National Theater Company of Korea and the Seoul Arts Troupe.
