Choo Young-woo Transforms into a Romantic Hero in 'Okssi Buin Jeon'

Choo Young-woo is set to captivate audiences with his first historical drama, transcending the Joseon era to reach modern viewers. The new JTBC weekend drama 'Okssi Buin Jeon' (옥씨부인전), premiering on November 30, features a gripping tale of survival and deception, centered around Ok Tae-young (임지연), a woman whose identity, status, and husband are all fabricated, and Cheon Seung-hwi (추영우), a talented artist who risks everything to protect her.

In the series, Choo Young-woo portrays Cheon Seung-hwi, a top-tier romantic figure in Joseon, who is not only a renowned performer but also willing to sacrifice his life for the woman he loves. His character is expected to showcase a blend of artistic flair and a daring spirit as he becomes embroiled in the dangerous schemes surrounding the false identity of Ok Tae-young.

Reflecting on his role, Choo shared, "I loved the collection of traditional fairy tales my parents gave me as a child, and when I first read the script, it brought back those memories. This is my first historical drama, and the opportunity to play two vastly different characters within the same story intrigued me, making me eager to take on this project."

Choo has prepared extensively for the role of Cheon Seung-hwi, engaging in activities such as horseback riding, sword fighting, pansori, and traditional Korean dance. He expressed his excitement about learning new skills, highlighting his passion for acting and the anticipation surrounding his portrayal of Seung-hwi.

Notably, Choo Young-woo will also play the character of Seong Yoon-gyeom, the first son of a magistrate who bears a striking resemblance to Seung-hwi. To effectively convey the contrasting charms of both characters, he mentioned, "Visually, I chose more vibrant and elaborate costumes for Seung-hwi. I also focused on adjusting my speech patterns; Seung-hwi tends to approach situations with a more cheerful demeanor, while Yoon-gyeom has his own unique atmosphere. I aimed to integrate these nuances into the overall tone of the drama."

As filming progressed, Choo revealed that he developed a deep emotional connection to his character, stating, "By the end of the shoot, I felt a strong affection for Seung-hwi. I truly enjoyed living out the life of a character with such diverse talents, and I hope viewers will find joy in experiencing Seung-hwi's story through the drama."

With his dynamic performance in 'Okssi Buin Jeon,' which features Choo Young-woo's first historical drama and dual roles, viewers can look forward to the series premiering on November 30 at 10:30 PM.
