Choo Sung-hoon Reflects on His Father's Passing in New Variety Show

On the premiere episode of ENA's new variety show, 'Choi Hwa-jung and Kim Ho-young's I Missed You,' aired on March 8, Choo Sung-hoon opened up about the loss of his father. Guest Baek Jung-nam shared how he became friends with Choo, revealing his long-standing passion for martial arts and his memories of watching Choo's fights live, including a main event match against Dennis Kang in 2007.
Choo Sung-hoon was described as a 'neighborhood brother' by the show's host, Choi Hwa-jung, who expressed her familiarity with him after watching his personal channel. Reflecting on the moment he received the news of his father's sudden passing due to a heart attack, Choo recalled, "I was shocked when I got the call while I was in Korea. By the time I arrived, he had already passed away. I was grateful to see his face one last time."
He shared a poignant memory of his father tying his judo belt when he was just three years old. During his father's final moments, Choo dressed him in his judo uniform and tied the belt around his waist, saying, "It was a good opportunity rather than a sad moment. I realized what it felt like to be in that position."
Choo also mentioned the significance of the Asian Games to him, stating, "It meant a lot to me, and my father was the happiest when I won a gold medal. I made sure to include it with him when he passed."
He reflected on the lessons learned from his father, particularly the importance of not taking things for granted. "Thinking of his passing as something normal has brought me some peace. He passed away while enjoying a game of golf, which I find comforting in its own way."
When asked about future aspirations, Choo expressed a desire to obtain a motorcycle license and become a racer, as well as to travel the world on a cruise.
