Choo Shin-soo's Wife Wants to Sell His Beloved Bentley

Ha Won-mi, the wife of former Major League Baseball player Choo Shin-soo, has expressed her desire to sell her husband's cherished Bentley Flying Spur. In a recent video on her YouTube channel, ‘하원미 HaWonmi,’ titled ‘I’m Really Selling All of Choo Shin-soo’s Stuff,’ she revealed her plans to discreetly part with some of his prized possessions.

In the video, Ha introduced the Bentley, stating, "It has never been in an accident. My husband took great care of it in the U.S. and hardly drove it in Korea." She explained that the car was the first one he purchased after joining the Texas Rangers and was custom-made, taking a year to arrive after the order was placed. The vehicle has been driven for 90,000 kilometers over ten years, and bringing it to Korea incurred significant costs and took over three months due to customs.

After showcasing other items, including sneakers worth around 20 million KRW and a gaming machine valued at 2 million KRW, Ha expressed that the Bentley is the item she most wants to sell. She humorously noted, "I really want to sell it. My husband is so attached to it that he takes it to the repair shop at the slightest scratch. I think it has spent more time in the shop than with me!" She added, "Seeing how much he loves it makes me a bit jealous, and I wonder what his reaction will be when he finds out it’s sold."

In a preview for the next episode, Ha is seen visiting a used car dealership to inquire about the car's market value. The dealer mentioned that the car could fetch a higher price if it was known that it belonged to Choo Shin-soo, to which she jokingly responded, "Isn’t he going to sue me?"

The Bentley was previously featured on JTBC’s ‘이방인’ (The Stranger) in 2018, where Choo shared the story behind his purchase. He revealed that his decision to buy an expensive car stemmed from experiences of discrimination he faced while living in the U.S. He explained, "As an outsider in America, I had to appeal through visible means. The treatment my children received at school was because I was a Major League player. I drove a less impressive car for a long time and was often overlooked, which led me to buy a supercar."

Ha also recounted a specific incident from Choo's minor league days when he mistakenly parked in another player's spot. The player told him, "If you park a bad car in my spot, fans will think I drive that kind of car," which deeply hurt Choo's pride.

The Bentley Flying Spur is a luxury sedan from the British brand Bentley, with new models starting at approximately 370 million KRW. The first generation was introduced in Korea in 2006, followed by the second generation in 2013 and the third in 2019. As of 2023, Bentley has sold over 2,000 Flying Spurs in the Korean market.
