Choo Shin-soo Reflects on Past DUI Incident

Baseball player Choo Shin-soo expressed remorse over his past DUI incident during an appearance on KBS 2TV's 'Car Wash JANG' on December 16. When asked if there are moments he wishes he could erase, he replied, "Everyone has those moments in life. For me, it was when I was caught driving under the influence in the U.S. during my baseball career." He acknowledged the gravity of his actions, stating, "While I wish I could forget it, I realized it was something I should never have done. That's why I come on shows like this to talk about it. Making the same mistake two or three times is no longer a mistake."

Choo also shared that he has never wanted to quit baseball, emphasizing the importance of the opportunity he has. "I worked hard to get this position and didn't want to lose it or give someone else a chance at my expense. I took someone else's spot to earn my chance. Everyone can stumble, but I got back up faster and stronger than anyone else. That's why I've lasted 16 years in this sport."

In 2011, Choo was arrested for DUI in the U.S., with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.201%, indicating he was heavily intoxicated. He received a six-month license suspension and a fine of $675 (approximately 710,000 KRW).
