Choo Sang-mi Sentenced to Life Imprisonment for Murder and Conspiracy in 'Now You're Calling'

In the final episode of MBC's weekend drama Now You're Calling (지금 거신 전화는), which aired on January 4, 2025, Choo Sang-mi's character, Shim Kyu-jin, faced severe consequences for her actions. After murdering her father-in-law, Baek Dong-hwan (played by Jung Dong-hwan), she attempted to orchestrate the murder of her daughter-in-law, Hong Hee-joo (played by Chae Soo-bin), in a bid to protect her true son, Baek Sa-eon. However, her plans unraveled when the real Baek Sa-eon was shot and killed by the police, leaving Shim Kyu-jin unable to save him. The court ruled that she showed no remorse after the initial murder and sentenced her to life imprisonment for her conspiracy to commit further murder. In a chilling response, Shim Kyu-jin smiled and appealed the decision, seeking a death sentence instead.
