On May 8, officials from Cheongju City, along with representatives from an international animal protection organization and actor Daniel Henney, worked to relocate dogs rescued from an illegal slaughterhouse in Songjeol-dong, Heungdeok-gu. Dozens of Jindo mix dogs were saved from a dire fate at a dog farm where they faced imminent slaughter. Due to a low preference for large breeds in South Korea, these dogs were at risk of euthanasia if not adopted. However, with the assistance of the Humane World for Animals, the rescued dogs are being sent to the United States for adoption.

In February, Cheongju City received reports from animal welfare groups about illegal slaughter activities at a dog farm in Heungdeok-gu. Upon inspection, it was discovered that 68 Jindo mix dogs were living in deplorable conditions, confined in cramped wire cages known as 'teungjang' and suffering from malnutrition and related health issues. Some deceased dogs were also found on the premises, indicating the brutal treatment they endured.

Following the inspection, the city took ownership of the 68 dogs and began their rescue efforts. Due to limited space at the local pet protection center, some dogs were temporarily housed at the farm. During this time, one of the dogs gave birth to several puppies, a few of which were adopted domestically.

Unfortunately, the remaining large dogs faced challenges in finding homes, as potential adopters in South Korea typically prefer smaller breeds. Without adopters, the threat of euthanasia loomed. Fortunately, the Humane World for Animals expressed interest in relocating the rescued dogs to the U.S., alleviating some of the city's concerns. A city official noted, 'It is difficult to find adopters for large dogs raised for consumption. Many have stayed at the shelter for over a year without finding homes, so this news was a relief.'

The city collaborated with animal welfare organizations to prepare the dogs for international adoption, administering vaccinations including rabies and COVID-19. On the same day, 51 of the rescued dogs were sent to the U.S. via Incheon International Airport. The remaining 17, including young puppies and their mother, will be cared for for an additional four months before being sent abroad later this year. These dogs are expected to find new families in the U.S., where adoption rates for pets are significantly higher.

Actor Daniel Henney participated in the relocation efforts, drawing attention to the cause. He has been known to adopt a retriever rescued from another dog farm in South Korea since 2020.

The farm owner has been reported for violating animal protection laws, and the facility has been shut down. Kim Sang-jin, head of the Cheongju City Animal Protection Team, stated, 'We will continue to do our best for animal welfare and encourage people to adopt rather than buy pets.' Currently, the city's pet protection center cares for approximately 1,300 stray animals annually, with about 60% being adopted. The Supreme Court of South Korea has confirmed a lower court's ruling that partially favors the wife of Kwon Do-hyung (34), the CEO of Terraform Labs, who is a central figure in the collapse of the virtual currencies Terra and Luna. The ruling, issued on May 8, 2025, stems from a lawsuit filed by Kwon's wife, Lee Mo, against the government regarding the seizure of her real estate shares and officetel pre-sale rights.

The Terra-Luna incident refers to the dramatic drop in value of the cryptocurrencies Terra and Luna, which Kwon had claimed were 'safe,' plummeting to nearly zero in May 2022, resulting in significant losses for investors. The prosecution sought asset seizure based on the Anti-Asset Forfeiture Act, citing violations of capital market laws against Kwon, and the court approved the seizure of approximately 233.3 billion won. This included the real estate shares and pre-sale rights held in Lee's name.

Following this decision, the government registered a provisional seizure on the couple's jointly purchased apartment, Galleria Foret, located in Seongsu-dong, which they acquired for 4.2 billion won in March 2021, with Lee holding 10% and Kwon 90% of the ownership.

In September 2023, Lee filed a lawsuit claiming that the shares of the apartment and the pre-sale rights for an officetel valued at approximately 1.86 billion won were purchased with her own funds. In June 2024, the first trial ruled in her favor, stating that since the acquisitions occurred during the couple's marriage (they married in 2020), they were presumed to be her separate property, thus the seizure should not apply.

However, in December 2024, the second trial rejected her claim to the apartment shares but upheld her ownership of the officetel pre-sale rights, stating that the apartment shares were effectively purchased with Kwon's funds and were thus considered his property.

The Supreme Court agreed with the second trial's assessment, dismissing the case without further hearings, thereby upholding the lower court's decision.

According to a representative from Lee's agency, I Made Entertainment, he collapsed while returning from a hospital visit for cold symptoms and was transported to the emergency room. Unfortunately, he passed away around 2:30 PM due to cardiac arrest. 

Born in 1944 in Seocheon, South Chungcheong Province, Lee made his debut in 1973 with MBC's 'Pleasant Blue and White Battle' (유쾌한 청백전). He gained recognition as a broadcaster after graduating from Korea University and serving as an officer in the military. His popularity soared in 1989 when he began hosting the MBC variety show 'Stage of Friendship' (우정의 무대). 

However, in 1996, he faced a scandal involving the misappropriation of funds intended for children with heart disease, which led to his departure from the show. Although he was cleared of all charges the following year, the program was canceled, and he took a break from broadcasting. After clearing his name, he was recognized for his charitable work, supporting surgeries for over 500 children with heart conditions. Throughout his career, Lee received numerous accolades, including the National Order of Cultural Merit (1987) and the Sports Medal of Honor (1990).

The ongoing legal battle surrounding FIFTY FIFTY's hit song 'Cupid' is set to continue. On May 8, the Seoul Central District Court's Civil Division 62, presided over by Judge Lee Hyun-seok, ruled against Attract, the agency representing FIFTY FIFTY, in a copyright confirmation lawsuit against The Givers, led by external music producer Ahn Seong-il.

Released in 2023, 'Cupid' became a massive success, reaching a peak position of 17 on the Billboard Hot 100 and maintaining a presence on the chart for 25 weeks.

Attract claimed that Ahn Seong-il had paid approximately $9,000 (around 11.7 million KRW) to Swedish students for a buyout of the song, asserting that CEO Jeon Hong-jun had refunded the song fee but that The Givers failed to provide information regarding the copyright purchase. They also stated that the service contract with The Givers included copyright transfer responsibilities.

In contrast, The Givers argued that Attract's payment was for the rights of a record producer, known as 'neighboring rights,' rather than for copyright itself.

Ultimately, the court dismissed Attract's claims, stating, "The plaintiff's request is without merit and is therefore rejected. The contract does not explicitly state any copyright transfer responsibilities, and The Givers undertook the contract at their own risk based on the creator's judgment."

The Givers noted that the court recognized them as the parties to the copyright transfer agreement, affirming that all substantial actions, including contract signing, negotiations, and cost burdens, were conducted through them.

Attract has announced plans to appeal while conducting a legal review. Separately, Attract and The Givers are engaged in a civil and criminal lawsuit regarding allegations of tampering. FIFTY FIFTY members Saena, Aran, and Shio Kina previously filed for a suspension of their exclusive contracts due to concerns over Attract's financial transparency, while Attract raised allegations against Ahn Seong-il regarding tampering. The court ruled in favor of Attract, leading to Kina withdrawing her lawsuit and returning to the agency.

Attract has since added four new members, restructuring FIFTY FIFTY into a five-member group and creating a new sensation with their latest release 'Pookie.' 결국 법원은 Attract의 주장을 기각하며 "원고의 요청은 근거가 없으므로 기각된다. 계약서에 저작권 이전 책임이 명시되어 있지 않으며, The Givers는 창작자의 판단에 따라 계약을 체결한 위험을 감수했다"고 밝혔다.

The Givers는 법원이 저작권 이전 계약의 당사자로 자신들을 인정했다고 언급하며, 계약 체결, 협상 및 비용 부담을 포함한 모든 실질적인 행위가 그들을 통해 이루어졌음을 확인했다.

Attract는 법적 검토를 진행하며 항소할 계획을 발표했다. 별도로 Attract와 The Givers는 조작 혐의에 대한 민사 및 형사 소송을 진행 중이다. FIFTY FIFTY의 멤버인 세나, 아란, 시오 키나가 Attract의 재정 투명성에 대한 우려로 독점 계약의 중단을 신청한 반면, Attract는 안성일에 대한 조작 혐의를 제기했다. 법원은 Attract의 손을 들어주었고, 이로 인해 키나는 소송을 철회하고 기획사로 돌아갔다.

Investigations have revealed that Moon Jae-in's daughter, Moon Da-hye, was a member of both the Democratic Party and the Justice Party during her father's presidency. The National Police Agency's investigation uncovered that the head of the National Security Office advised her to resign from the Democratic Party after concerns arose about the potential negative impact on the president's administration due to her dual membership. 

According to the indictment submitted by the Ministry of Justice, the situation escalated when Moon Da-hye's membership in the Justice Party was widely reported in January 2018, raising suspicions about her dual affiliation. A prosecutor stated that evidence confirming her membership in the Democratic Party was obtained through seizures, noting that belonging to multiple parties is illegal, but they did not pursue charges due to the statute of limitations.

The investigation also indicated that Moon Jae-in assisted his son-in-law, Seo Mo, in securing various jobs as the couple faced financial difficulties. The indictment detailed that in February 2016, after Seo failed repeatedly in law school admissions and his marriage deteriorated, Moon Jae-in facilitated his employment at 'Tori Games' through a former administrative officer from his administration.

Despite a monthly salary of 2.6 million won, the couple struggled to meet their average monthly expenses of over 6 million won, relying on 4 million won in monthly support from Seo's mother. However, as her financial situation worsened, the support ceased, and by late January 2018, the couple's total savings dwindled to just 2 million won.

Subsequently, Moon Jae-in helped Seo secure a position at Thai low-cost airline Thai AirAsia, where he earned a total of 217 million won from August 2018 to April 2020. Prosecutors have classified this payment as a bribe to Moon Jae-in. The Presidential Security Service reported Seo's employment and the security plans for Moon Da-hye's family in Thailand to the former president, who approved them.

On April 24, the Jeonju District Prosecutor's Office indicted Moon Jae-in on bribery charges without detention, alongside former lawmaker Lee, who allegedly provided favors to the family. Moon Da-hye and Seo received deferred prosecution. In response, Moon Jae-in criticized the investigation as politically motivated, claiming it was designed to harass and humiliate him and his family. He has since filed complaints against the prosecutors involved for abuse of power and leaking information.

In light of these developments, lawmaker Joo Jin-woo stated that if Moon Jae-in and the Democratic Party had any sense of shame, they should apologize to the public, criticizing their attempts to intimidate the judiciary and prosecutors with threats of impeachment and legal action.

한 달 급여가 260만 원에도 불구하고, 이 부부는 평균 월 지출이 600만 원이 넘는 상황에서 서모의 어머니로부터 매달 400만 원의 지원에 의존해야 했다. 그러나 그녀의 재정 상황이 악화되면서 지원이 중단되었고, 2018년 1월 말까지 이 부부의 총 저축액은 200만 원으로 줄어들었다.

Lee Sang-yong, the beloved broadcaster known as 'Popeye Uncle' (뽀빠이 아저씨), has sadly passed away today, May 9, 2025. He collapsed while returning from a hospital visit near his home in Seocho-gu, Seoul, due to health issues. Despite being rushed to Seoul St. Mary's Hospital for emergency treatment, he could not be saved.

A close associate of the late broadcaster confirmed the news, stating, "It is true that he has passed away. He had gone to the hospital for a cold and suddenly collapsed on his way out."

Regarding the funeral arrangements, the associate mentioned, "The wake is planned to be held at Seoul St. Mary's Hospital, but there are currently no available rooms. Beloved Broadcaster Lee Sang-yong Passes Away at 81

In the early hours of May 10, 2025, a tragic accident occurred in Yongdu-dong, Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul, when a taxi collided with another taxi before crashing into a safety barrier. The incident, which took place around 1:42 AM, resulted in the death of an 80-year-old male taxi driver, referred to as A. Despite receiving cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) during transport to the hospital, A could not be saved. Two passengers in A's taxi sustained injuries but are reported to be in stable condition. The driver of the other taxi involved in the collision also escaped serious injury. The Dongdaemun Police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident.

Seo Ha-yan Shares Daily Life with Im Chang-jung and Their Children

Park Hyun-jong, the former chairman of BHC, has been transferred to the prosecution after being investigated for embezzlement and breach of trust. According to the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency's anti-corruption unit, Park was sent to the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office without detention on charges of embezzlement under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Economic Crimes. The police believe that Park misappropriated hundreds of millions of won from company funds, leading to searches of his residence in Songpa-gu and BHC's headquarters in December 2023. A request for an arrest warrant for Park was submitted in March but was denied by the court.

In addition to the embezzlement charges, Park was also indicted in February for violating the Information and Communications Network Act and the Personal Information Protection Act by accessing the internal network of competitor BBQ using the IDs and passwords of two former employees to steal trade secrets. He received a six-month prison sentence, suspended for two years, from the Supreme Court.

Park previously served as the vice president in charge of overseas operations at BBQ before moving to BHC after BBQ sold the company to a private equity fund in 2013. He was dismissed from his position as chairman by BHC's parent company, Global Gourmet Services, in November 2023, citing management reform.
