Chef Lee Yeon-bok Apologizes for E. Coli Contamination in Instant Meal Product

Chef Lee Yeon-bok (이연복) has issued an apology following the discovery of E. coli contamination in his instant meal product, 'Hanwoo Ugeoji Gukbap' (한우 우거지 국밥). On July 16, 2025, he took to social media to express his regret, stating, "I sincerely apologize for delivering this unfortunate news. The E. coli levels in the product exceeded safety standards, leading to a sales suspension ordered by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (식품의약품안전처)." He acknowledged the disappointment and inconvenience caused to customers who trusted his brand.
Lee confirmed that all affected products would be destroyed and that he has halted both sales and production to prevent any further distribution. He assured customers who purchased the 'Hanwoo Ugeoji Gukbap' that refunds and necessary actions would be processed promptly through their point of purchase.
Taking full responsibility for the situation, Lee vowed to respond diligently and work towards regaining customer trust. The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety had previously announced the recall of the product due to non-compliance with bacterial and E. coli standards, specifically targeting items with a consumption date of July 7, 2026.
