Chef Lee Yeon-bok Apologizes After E. Coli Detection in Instant Food Product

Chef Lee Yeon-bok (이연복) has issued an apology following the detection of E. coli in his instant food product, 'Hanwoo Ugeoji Gukbap' (한우 우거지 국밥), leading to a sales suspension. On July 16, he took to social media to express his regret, stating, "I sincerely apologize for delivering this unfortunate news. The E. coli levels in the recently sold product exceeded safety standards, prompting the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (식품의약품안전처) to halt sales." He acknowledged the disappointment and inconvenience caused to customers who trusted his brand. Lee confirmed that all affected products would be destroyed and that he has ceased production and distribution to prevent any further issues. He assured customers that refunds would be processed swiftly through their point of purchase. Taking full responsibility, he vowed to address the situation diligently and work towards regaining customer trust. The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety had previously announced the recall of 'Lee Yeon-bok's Bokjumeoni Hanwoo Ugeoji Gukbap' due to non-compliance with bacterial standards, affecting products with a consumption date until July 7, 2026.
