Chae Ri-na Reflects on Past Trauma and Plans Wedding After 10 Years of Marriage

In the latest episode of TV Chosun's variety show, 조선의 사랑꾼 (Joseon's Lovebirds), Chae Ri-na opened up about her husband Park Yong-geun's traumatic experience from a knife attack that occurred a decade ago. The couple, who are celebrating their 10th wedding anniversary, revealed that they never had a wedding ceremony due to the incident.

In October 2012, singer Chae Ri-na and former baseball player Park Yong-geun were involved in a violent altercation with a drunken patron at a bar in Gangnam, Seoul. The assailant brandished a knife, resulting in Park suffering severe injuries, including the removal of 44% of his liver. Tragically, a victim who was present at the scene, the ex-wife of Cool's Kim Sung-soo, lost her life in the attack, leaving a lasting impact on those involved.

Chae Ri-na recounted the harrowing moment when Park was taken to the hospital, where doctors gave him a 99% chance of death before surgery. Park reflected on the incident, stating, "It was a huge accident, and everyone involved suffered greatly." When asked about the trauma from the event, he admitted that while he initially struggled with it, time has helped, although he still prefers to avoid crowded places.

Chae Ri-na expressed her gratitude for their survival, saying, "We were victims, but thankfully we survived. We want to live quietly and not draw attention, as it might bring back painful memories for others. That's why we never had a wedding ceremony back then."

During the episode, Chae Ri-na shared her desire to finally hold a wedding ceremony after ten years of marriage. The couple discussed their long-held wish to celebrate their union, stating, "We talked about having a reminder wedding for our 10th anniversary. We don't have a detailed concept, but we want to have a wedding we never had."

Additionally, Chae Ri-na revealed plans to undergo in vitro fertilization (IVF) after facing multiple challenges in starting a family. She expressed determination to try IVF again this year, stating, "This will be our last attempt, and since we have frozen eggs at the hospital, we will give it another shot." Her mother expressed her happiness and support, sharing her hope that her daughter would not feel lonely.
