CAN's Baek Gi-sung Shares Thoughts on New Music

On December 23, during an episode of KBS JOY's 'Ask Anything', Baek Gi-sung, a member of the group CAN, opened up about his current situation and thoughts on releasing new music. He expressed concerns that, following the success of their cover songs, releasing a new original track might come off as too obvious or forced. He revealed that their cover of 'Apartment' has garnered over 900,000 views, surprising many.
Baek Gi-sung shared that he has been doing covers for about three to four years, noting that while the initial reactions were positive, the older audience didn't engage much with likes or subscriptions, resulting in views often falling below 1,000. He transitioned to idol cover songs after starting a vlog.
During the show, he entertained the audience by performing live renditions of 'Blue Coral' and 'Apartment', even humorously commenting that the song 'Apartment' might have 20 rebar rods in it. He also sang 'The Moment I First Saw You', the OST for 'Love's Hachuping', mentioning that he initially struggled with how to approach the song but received great feedback once he performed it. He noted that some children prefer his version over the original by Winter.
Host Seo Jang-hoon remarked that younger generations who are unfamiliar with Baek Gi-sung might find his impact surprising. When asked about CAN's current status, Baek Gi-sung mentioned that he is waiting for his fellow member Lee Jong-won to recover from his health issues, as Lee had expressed a desire to take a break a few years ago. Baek Gi-sung assured him that he could return to the group whenever he was ready.
