Can G-Dragon and Byun Woo-seok Save the 'MAMA' Awards After a Disappointing Start?

The 2024 MAMA AWARDS (이하 MAMA) is facing backlash after a pre-recorded performance by Rosé and Bruno Mars, as the event enters its third day. The highlight of the day is expected to be G-Dragon's comeback stage and Byun Woo-seok's special performance. Will these two stars be able to restore the credibility that 'MAMA' has lost?

Kicking off on November 21 at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, this year's 'MAMA' continues with relay events at the Kyocera Dome in Osaka, Japan, on the 22nd and 23rd. The organizers have heavily promoted the event as a global representative K-POP awards show that has paved the way for 25 years, boasting its unique position and authority.

Particularly on the 21st, the announcement of Rosé and Bruno Mars performing their hit song 'APT.' generated immense anticipation. The event's promotional materials even claimed it would feature the "world's first performance" of the song, expressing great pride and excitement about what the duo would bring to the stage.

However, the actual performance fell short of expectations. While the collaboration between Rosé and Bruno Mars was flawless, the fact that it was pre-recorded detracted from the live experience. Despite impressive live band accompaniment and the use of stand microphones, the pre-recorded nature of the performance lacked the energy and immediacy that a live awards show typically offers.

Fans who had gathered at the Kyocera Dome, hoping for a live rendition of the 'world's first' collaboration, were left in disbelief, staring blankly at the screen in disappointment. Viewers watching from home also expressed their dissatisfaction, with reactions starkly contrasting the grand promotional claims made by Mnet.

As the final day arrives, the event is set to feature trusted host Kim Tae-ri, following Park Bo-gum's appearance on the American stage. Performances are lined up from (G)I-DLE, ZEROBASEONE, aespa, BIBI, MIYAWO, and SEVENTEEN. The red carpet event commenced at 1 PM on the 23rd, with the main ceremony scheduled for 3 PM.

After the letdown from Rosé's performance, fans are now pinning their hopes on G-Dragon's solo comeback stage and Byun Woo-seok's live rendition of 'Sonagi,' the OST for 'Seonjae Up Go Tui.' G-Dragon's recent release of his new song 'Power' adds to the excitement surrounding his performance, marking a long-awaited return.

Can the 2024 MAMA, which has disappointed global music fans, regain their favor with the performances of G-Dragon and Byun Woo-seok?
