Buddhist Temple Supports Low-Income Community with Pork Donation

On June 12, at the St. Joseph Love Restaurant in Gwangju's Nam-gu district, Ven. Beopgong, the head monk of the Munbin Temple (문빈정사), along with local council member Oh Young-soon, provided a generous donation of pork and rice to support low-income individuals. The St. Joseph Love Restaurant, operated by the Caritas Sisters, offers free meals without government funding, relying solely on donations and volunteers. However, due to the economic downturn this year, meat donations had ceased, making it difficult to provide meat dishes. In response to the sisters' struggles, Councilor Oh reached out to the Compassionate Action Association (자비신행회) for assistance, leading to the collaboration with Munbin Temple. The team brought 20 kg of pork and 100 kg of rice, personally grilling the pork to serve a hearty lunch to the elderly patrons. Ven. Beopgong expressed that this initiative was aimed at embodying the Buddhist principle of compassion, hoping to convey not just a meal, but also a message of comfort and respect.
