BTS's Jungkook Surprises Fans with Late-Night Live Stream

Jungkook (정국) of BTS (방탄소년단) touched the hearts of fans with an unexpected late-night live stream on December 18. The broadcast, held on the fan communication platform Weverse, lasted approximately two and a half hours and attracted over 20 million viewers, setting a new record.
Greeting fans with a salute, Jungkook expressed his excitement, saying, "It's been so long. I really missed you all. I'm nervous because it's been a while." He shared that he had been working out daily, running 5 kilometers and lifting weights, to prepare for the live session, as he had gained some weight during his break.
He also mentioned that he is doing well in the military alongside his fellow member Jimin (지민) and shared plans to meet with Jin (진) and J-Hope (제이홉).
Jungkook took a moment to address his fans, urging them to respect his privacy. He noted, "I saw that my moving news is all over YouTube. I hope you won't come to my new house. I understand your intentions, but I can't receive packages sent to my home address, and they will all be returned. If you want to send letters, please send them to the company, and I will collect them. I receive a lot of packages in the military, but I can't accept them, especially food items. I appreciate your kindness, but I hope you can refrain from sending them."
Instead, Jungkook hosted an 'online housewarming' for his fans. The basement space where he streamed was equipped with karaoke equipment, a large screen, and a bar, creating a cozy hangout atmosphere.
During the live session, he performed various requested songs, including Rosé and Bruno Mars's "Apartment," V's "Winter Ahead," and Park Hyo-shin's "Goodbye." He particularly delighted fans by singing G-Dragon's "Nililiya" and "Who You?" while expressing his admiration for BIGBANG, stating, "I am a huge fan of BIGBANG. I'm so happy they made a comeback. I tried singing 'Power' and 'Home Sweet Home' in the military, and it gave me chills. It's a rule for guys my age to impersonate BIGBANG songs at karaoke."
Despite his global recognition, Jungkook opened up about his recent struggles, admitting, "I watched some AI videos, and it seems like AI sings better than me. Honestly, if AI recorded something, no one would know. I feel like I'm losing my job. I don't understand why everyone is so talented these days. My self-esteem has really dropped lately. I find myself thinking, 'I want to be on stage soon. I need to do better,' which leads to feelings of inferiority. I really want to make a comeback soon."
Jungkook enlisted in the military on December 12, 2022, and is currently serving as a corporal in the 5th Infantry Division, with his expected discharge date set for June 11, 2024.
