BTS's Jin Receives International Acclaim for Solo Album 'Happy'

'Happy' is a record of encouragement.
Since its release on November 15, Jin's first solo album 'Happy' has garnered widespread praise from major international media outlets. Critics have highlighted Jin's musicality and the special message of love he aims to convey to his fans.
British music magazine NME noted, "Reading Jin's interviews makes it clear how significant 'happiness' is to him. He wants to show his fans a brighter side rather than his darker feelings, frequently discussing the support and joy he receives from them. Thus, it is a natural choice for his first solo album to be titled 'Happy.'"
The magazine further commented, "This six-track album is filled with brightness while also acknowledging the shadows that enhance happiness. Jin understands the value of darkness for true joy." They concluded, "Essentially, 'Happy' is a record of encouragement. This album promises that anyone can reach a state of happiness and captures the joy of finding delight in the small moments of everyday life."
American magazine Teen Vogue remarked, "Two years ago, Jin promised his fans an everlasting universe with his first solo single 'The Astronaut.' He is now ready to fulfill that promise of moving towards eternity with his loved ones. In this context, the album carries a beautiful inevitability."
Rolling Stone, a prominent American music magazine, stated, "'Happy' is a work that completes the second chapter of BTS. The album pieces together how each of the seven members' creative journeys unfold. Jin's captivating voice shines elegantly across both the new wave tracks featuring synthesizers and the unembellished piano ballads." They added that the title track 'Running Wild' perfectly complements Jin's bright and cheerful charm.
Consequence of Sound, a U.S. music publication, commented, "Jin has firmly established his own space through his solo work. He mentioned that his goal is to bring happiness with the pre-released track 'I’ll Be There.' It seems he has achieved that goal with this album."
Billboard recently shared an interview with Jin, interpreting, "'Happy' is an album that showcases Jin's creative growth and his ability to explore new musical horizons. The new release is deeply connected to the roots of BTS's journey while being filled with warm messages. It captivates not only fans but also appeals to new audiences."
In his interview with Billboard, Jin reflected, "While making the album, I was able to think about how much the ARMY (the fandom) means to me. I considered what I wanted to convey to them with each track and how I could bring them joy and happiness. I also expressed how much I missed them during our time apart."
Regarding collaborations with talented artists like MAX and the popular Japanese rock band ONE OK ROCK, he expressed gratitude, saying, "I am really thankful to have been able to create 'Happy' with such talented artists." When asked if he would consider forming a separate band for future projects, he replied, "My band is only BTS," emphasizing his personal interest in band music while enjoying exploring various styles as a solo artist, but ultimately stating that his musical roots will always be with BTS.
Jin is set to perform the title track 'Running Wild' on the popular American NBC program The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on November 21 at 1:35 PM KST.
