BTS's Jimin and Jungkook Nominated for 2024 BBMAs, Setting New Records

Jimin (지민) and Jungkook (정국) of BTS (방탄소년단) have once again demonstrated their immense global popularity by being nominated for the 2024 Billboard Music Awards (BBMAs). Announced on November 25, 2024, the finalists for the awards include Jimin and Jungkook in the categories of 'Top Global K-Pop Artist' and 'Top Global K-Pop Song'. This marks the second consecutive year that both artists have received nominations for their solo work at the BBMAs, solidifying their status in the music industry.
Jimin's title track 'Who' from his second solo album 'MUSE' has been nominated for 'Top Global K-Pop Song'. Upon its release, 'Who' debuted at number 14 on the Billboard Hot 100, making it Jimin's sixth entry on the chart as a solo artist. The song continues to resonate with fans, maintaining its presence on the Hot 100 for 17 consecutive weeks.
Jungkook is vying for awards with his solo single '3D (feat. Jack Harlow)' and the title track 'Standing Next to You' from his album 'GOLDEN'. Both songs are nominated in the same category for the second year in a row. Additionally, 'Standing Next to You' has also been nominated for 'Top Selling Song'. Both tracks made impressive debuts at number 5 on the Billboard Hot 100.
The album 'GOLDEN', which features 'Standing Next to You', is also nominated for 'Top K-Pop Album'. It has achieved a remarkable feat by remaining on the Billboard 200 for 24 consecutive weeks, setting a record for the longest-charting album by a Korean solo artist.
Thanks to this success, Jungkook has made history as the first K-Pop solo artist to be nominated for 'Top Song Sales Artist'. He has been recognized as a finalist in a total of six categories, making him the most nominated K-Pop artist at this year's BBMAs.
BTS, as a group, has previously won 12 trophies at the BBMAs, including 'Top Social Artist' from 2017 to 2021, 'Top Duo/Group' in 2019 and 2021-2022, and 'Top Selling Song' in 2021 and 2022. Notably, Jungkook won 'Top Global K-Pop Song' at the 2023 BBMAs for his solo single 'Seven (feat. Latto)'.
The BBMAs are considered one of the four major music award shows in the United States, alongside the Grammy Awards, American Music Awards, and MTV VMAs. The 2024 ceremony will take place on December 12 and will be broadcast on FOX and Amazon Fire TV, with streaming available later on Paramount+.
