BTS Updates on Legal Actions Against Malicious Commenters
On March 31, Big Hit Music, the agency representing BTS (방탄소년단), provided an update regarding their ongoing legal actions against individuals responsible for malicious online comments. In a statement shared on the official fan community platform Weverse, the agency revealed that several identities of those who posted harmful content have been identified through previous lawsuits, leading to ongoing investigations. Some defendants have already received confirmed fines, while others are currently under prosecution or facing formal trials. Big Hit Music emphasized their commitment to ensuring that those who create harmful posts face severe consequences.
Regarding the YouTuber known as ‘탈덕수용소’, the agency noted that a first-instance ruling has recognized a liability for damages amounting to 76 million KRW. However, as ‘탈덕수용소’ has appealed the decision, Big Hit Music is diligently preparing for the appeal process, aiming to hold the YouTuber accountable for their illegal actions against the artists.
Additionally, Big Hit Music addressed serious criminal activities, including stalking incidents that occurred late last year. The agency promptly reported these crimes to the police, resulting in the arrest of the perpetrator, who was subsequently charged and fined 10 million KRW earlier this year. The agency reiterated their zero-tolerance policy towards any actions that threaten the safety of their artists.
Big Hit Music also warned against the creation of baseless rumors that damage the reputation and personal rights of the artists, as well as acts of defamation, sexual harassment, and invasion of privacy, all of which are illegal and can lead to prosecution.
As BTS members are set to complete their military service by June, the group is expected to resume full group activities thereafter.
