BTS Joins National Mourning for Muan Air Disaster Victims
As the nation observes a period of mourning following the tragic Muan air disaster, BTS (방탄소년단) has chosen to remain silent in solidarity. On December 30, Big Hit Music, the agency representing BTS, released an official statement via their social media accounts. They expressed their heartfelt condolences, stating, 'We extend our deepest sympathies and condolences to the victims of the aviation disaster and their families.' In light of the tragedy, they announced that they would not be releasing the scheduled episode 16 of 'Run BTS!' (달려라 석진) this week, nor any content related to member V's birthday. The agency requested understanding from fans during this time of mourning. According to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, the incident occurred on December 29 at 9:03 AM when a Jeju Air flight 7C2216 from Bangkok attempted to land at Muan International Airport but crashed into the runway's outer wall due to its landing gear not deploying. Out of the 181 passengers on board, 179 tragically lost their lives, leaving only two survivors. In response to this sudden tragedy, the government has declared a national mourning period until January 4 at midnight. Various broadcasting stations have opted to cancel their scheduled programming in favor of news specials, and award ceremonies have also been suspended as a sign of deep respect and mourning.
