BTS (방탄소년단) has officially announced their return with a new group album set to release in the spring of 2026. 'King of Kings' director Jang Seong-ho shared his insights on the international success of Korean content during a press screening and conference held on July 2 at CGV Yongsan I-Park Mall in Seoul. 

The animated film 'King of Kings' takes viewers on a journey with renowned British author Charles Dickens and his youngest son, Walter, as they explore one of the greatest stories from 2,000 years ago. The film draws inspiration from Dickens' unpublished manuscript 'The Life of Our Lord,' which he wrote for his children and is well-known for works like 'Oliver Twist' and 'A Christmas Carol.' 

Notably, 'King of Kings' achieved remarkable success after its North American release in April, surpassing $60.3 million in cumulative earnings, making it the highest-grossing Korean film of all time and the second highest-grossing Asian film. It also received an impressive 98% on Rotten Tomatoes' audience score and an A+ CinemaScore, reflecting overwhelming support. 

When asked about the future direction of K-animation in the global market, especially following the success of Sony's 'K-Pop Demon Hunters,' Jang Seong-ho explained that 'King of Kings' was initially targeted at the North American market without considering Korean themes. He admitted that he did not anticipate K-content becoming such a global phenomenon. 

He noted, 'Hollywood is now creating works based on Korean themes. While recording for 'King of Kings,' I traveled around the world, going back and forth between LA, New York, and London. I could feel the changing reactions from local staff. They would at least say a few words in Korean and were often fans of BTS and directors Bong Joon-ho and Park Chan-wook. I even received questions about recent works by director Hong Sang-soo, which shows the changing perception of K-content.' 

Jang continued, 'In the past, when I mentioned I was from Korea, people were often unfamiliar with it. Now, I feel treated as a colleague creating similar content. There’s no longer a cultural inferiority complex. While my generation still carries some of that, the younger generation does not. That’s the reality.' 

He added, 'Just as Hollywood has produced films like 'Mulan' based on Chinese themes and 'Coco' based on Latin American themes, we too can now challenge ourselves to create mainstream works based on Korean themes without hesitation. K-content has proven to be universally enjoyable, as evidenced by the global popularity of Korean dramas and films. We are in an era where self-censorship has diminished, allowing creators to freely express their talents.' 

'King of Kings' is set to be released in South Korea on July 16.

The Daegu Chicken and Beer Festival, a highlight of the summer in Daegu, is set to take place from July 2 to July 6 at Duryu Park. Since its inception in 2013, the festival has grown significantly, attracting over a million visitors last year alone.

The opening ceremony will be held on July 2 at 7:30 PM at the 2·28 Freedom Square in Daegu's Dalseo District, featuring performances by artists like Chungha and Park Myung-soo. Throughout the festival, other performers such as Kwon Eun-bi and Flow Sick will also take the stage, culminating in a performance by the Yoon Do-hyun Band on July 6.

This year, the festival is expected to draw a large number of international tourists. A promotional video was displayed 24 times on the Times Square billboard in New York City on June 21, and themed packages have been launched on Asian travel platforms like Klook and KKDAY. Tourists from various regions, including nearby Gangwon and South Hamgyong provinces, as well as the capital Pyongyang and northern areas like North Hamgyong, Yanggang, and Jagang provinces, flocked to the site. Photos released by the agency depicted vacationers joyfully diving into the sea against a backdrop of a beach filled with umbrellas.

The tourist zone is divided into two sections, the Myongsasipri Recreation Area 1 and 2, featuring a range of accommodations, sports and leisure facilities, cinemas, and department stores. Numerous dining options are available, including the famous Okryu Restaurant, known for its Pyongyang cold noodles, which has opened a branch in the area. Other establishments include restaurants serving bulgogi, soft drink cafes, and tea houses specializing in Korean ginseng, along with beer houses.

The completion ceremony for the Wonsan-Kalma Coastal Tourist Zone was attended by Kim Jong-un on June 24, alongside his wife Ri Sol-ju and daughter Ju-ae. The zone is set to open to foreign tourists later this month. The Korean Central News Agency described the tourist area as having the capacity to accommodate nearly 20,000 guests, offering a variety of hotels and inns tailored to the preferences of both domestic and international visitors. Additionally, Russian news agency TASS reported that Russian tourists are scheduled to be the first foreign visitors to the resort on July 7.
