Broadcaster Jang Seong-kyu Donates to Support Victims of Jeju Air Tragedy

Former announcer and broadcaster Jang Seong-kyu has joined efforts to support the victims of the recent Jeju Air tragedy by making a significant donation. On January 1, he shared a heartfelt message reflecting on the emotional toll of the year-end awards ceremony, stating, 'The last night of 2024 was heavy on my heart, and my temperature rose to 39 degrees. It was a particularly painful end to the year for both my body and mind.'
He continued, 'The new year dawned, but it felt dark. Although I had never met the victims, I wanted to start the year in remembrance of them. With a weary body and spirit, I made my way to the joint memorial site, hoping to offer a small comfort to the bereaved families. Once again, I extend my deepest condolences to the deceased.' Jang Seong-kyu announced that he donated 10 million won to the Korean Red Cross.
This donation comes in the wake of a tragic incident on December 29, when Jeju Air flight 7C2216, arriving from Bangkok, collided with the runway's outer wall while attempting to land at Muan International Airport in Jeollanam-do, resulting in the deaths of 179 individuals on the scene.
In response to the tragedy, the government has declared a national mourning period until January 4, during which the entertainment industry is also participating by canceling or postponing various programs, concerts, and press events to honor the victims.
