The attack took place in a busy area with multiple vehicles passing by. 

On July 14, A turned himself in to the police after they narrowed their search to his neighborhood. During questioning, he claimed he acted out of a sudden bad mood and did not know the victim. The woman, who fell to the ground from the shock, was diagnosed with a two-week injury. She expressed her fear, stating that if she had been wearing a shorter skirt, her injury could have been much worse. 

Authorities reported that there were no signs of alcohol or drug use at the time of the incident and are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the attack.

During a meeting with families affected by various disasters, including the Sewol ferry tragedy and the Itaewon incident, President Lee acknowledged that the true circumstances surrounding the Itaewon tragedy have not been adequately explored for various reasons. This was reported by the presidential spokesperson, Kang Yu-jeong.

The Democratic Party had previously activated a National Assembly special committee to investigate the incident at the end of 2022, which operated for 55 days. In negotiations over the Itaewon Special Law in May of last year, there was a proposal to include provisions for the committee to conduct its own investigations and request search warrants, but this was later removed due to concerns over potential overreach.

The award is well-regarded in the German literary community and is presented to both authors and translators. The total prize money amounts to €35,000 (approximately 54 million KRW), with €20,000 awarded to the author and €15,000 to the translators.

On July 17, 2025, the Seoul Metropolitan Police announced the arrest of 39 members of the organized crime group known as 'Jinseongpa' (진성파), including a 40-year-old leader identified as A. This gang, which has been operating since 1983, was involved in various illegal online activities such as running gambling websites, investment fraud, and money laundering. The police reported that nine of the arrested individuals have been detained, while two others have fled to Southeast Asia and are currently wanted.

According to police investigations, the Jinseongpa gang originated from a group of high school classmates who formed a violent student circle. After the original members retired, younger members born in the 1980s took over, shifting the focus to online crimes, including operating gambling sites and distributing illegal SIM cards. Additionally, the Jinseongpa gang was implicated in a September 2023 incident where members of the 'Bulsapa' (불사파) gang kidnapped and threatened a gallery representative in Gangnam. They allegedly provided shelter and escape funds to one of their members, B, who was under investigation to prevent the case from expanding to their organization.
