BoA Reflects on Personal Struggles Following Controversial Live Broadcast
On April 15, 2025, singer BoA took to the fan community platform Weverse to share her thoughts following the controversy surrounding her drunken live broadcast with broadcaster Jeon Hyun-moo. She expressed, "In the past few years, I have faced difficult times both professionally and personally. Despite this, I believed I was doing my best to move forward. However, I realize that my efforts may have made some people uncomfortable."
BoA continued, "I used to think that simply working hard would lead to success. But as the world changes and I change, I find myself questioning, 'Is this where I truly belong?' The reason I cannot let go of music is that without it, I feel like my life would completely collapse."
She added, "Even in moments of despair, when I felt I could never rise again, I found solace in music and the support of my fans. I sincerely thank everyone who has always believed in me, worried for me, and quietly cheered me on."
The controversy arose after BoA and Jeon Hyun-moo conducted a live broadcast on Instagram on the night of April 5, where both appeared visibly intoxicated. During the stream, BoA leaned on Jeon and playfully touched his face. When a fan inquired about rumors of Jeon dating fellow entertainer Park Na-rae, BoA remarked, "I don't think they are dating. It would be a shame for oppa (Jeon Hyun-moo)." This comment sparked backlash online, with netizens labeling it as "rude" and inappropriate for a drunken context.
In response to the backlash, BoA issued an apology on Weverse on April 7, stating, "I apologize to everyone who felt uncomfortable due to my careless words and immature behavior during the social media live broadcast."
