BLACKPINK's Jisoo Shines in New Role on Coupang Play's 'Newtopia'
Jisoo from BLACKPINK is captivating audiences with her acting transformation in the Coupang Play series 'Newtopia'. In the first two episodes released on February 7, she portrays the character Young-joo, effectively conveying realistic romantic emotions amidst extreme circumstances.
'Newtopia' follows the story of a soldier, Jae-yoon (played by Park Jung-min), and his girlfriend Young-joo (Jisoo) as they navigate a zombie-infested Seoul, combining elements of romance and humor with the horror genre to create a unique tension.
In the series, Young-joo is a fresh graduate who anxiously awaits her boyfriend Jae-yoon while grappling with the challenges of a long-distance military relationship. Feeling uncertain about her future just a month into her new job, she suggests taking a break to Jae-yoon, but his acceptance of their breakup leads her to tears.
As she reminisces about their memories together, Young-joo struggles to move on even during a dinner with her senior. However, a greater crisis looms as the second episode introduces zombies, heightening the suspense. Young-joo panics during an unexpected attack, crying out in fear, but quickly regains her composure to fight for survival. She showcases her determination by assessing the zombie situation and seeking help, adding to the dramatic tension.
Her deep feelings for Jae-yoon are also highlighted as she expresses concern for his safety, leaving him a message saying, "I will come find you." She resolutely declines her senior's suggestion to head to the police station, choosing instead to risk everything to reach Jae-yoon's location in the tower, raising anticipation for future developments.
In addition to her acting, Jisoo is set to release her new mini-album 'AMORTAGE' on February 14 at 2 PM, marking her return as a solo artist. 'Newtopia' airs every Friday at 8 PM on Coupang Play.
