BLACKPINK's Jennie Wins Lawsuit Against Impersonator and Publisher

BLACKPINK's Jennie has achieved a legal victory in her lawsuit against a man who impersonated her biological father and a publishing company. On June 18, reports from 'Woman Sense' revealed that the Goyang branch of the Uijeongbu District Court ruled in favor of Jennie in the first instance of her request to prohibit the distribution of the publication. The court deemed the claim by the individual, referred to as Mr. A, that he was Jennie's biological father, to be false. As a result, the court ordered the complete destruction of the book published by Mr. A and prohibited any mention of Jennie on social media platforms, including KakaoTalk profiles.
This ruling stems from a bizarre incident that occurred last September when an individual claimed to be Jennie's biological father and announced the release of an AI novel based on her life. The person presented the relationship as if it were genuine, but in reality, he was not listed as her father on any official family documents.
In response, Jennie's agency, OA Entertainment, took a strong stance against the situation. They stated, "False information regarding the artist's father is being disseminated through illegal publications and fake news. This is clearly a falsehood and has nothing to do with Jennie." They also mentioned that they are pursuing legal action against the distributor for defamation and obstruction of business.
The court's decision has sparked various reactions online, with netizens expressing disbelief that someone would impersonate Jennie's father. Comments ranged from concerns about whether this was an extreme form of fandom or malicious marketing, emphasizing that such actions should be punished. Additionally, many appreciated the legal measures taken to draw a clear line against fake news and the exploitation of artists' private lives, marking this case as a significant precedent.
