Baek Jong-won's YouTube Channel Releases New Videos Amid Controversy

Just three weeks after Baek Jong-won announced a halt to his broadcasting activities, new videos have surfaced on his official YouTube channel. Released on May 30, these videos feature franchise owners from his company, 더본코리아 (The Born Korea), promoting their respective businesses, including 연돈볼카츠 (Yeondon Pork Cutlet), 막이오름 (Makioreum), 역전우동 (Yeokjeon Udon), 롤링파스타 (Rolling Pasta), 홍콩반점 (Hong Kong Banjum), 새마을식당 (Saemaul Sikdang), 리춘시장 (Richun Market), and 원조쌈밥집 (Original Ssam Bap House). Each owner introduces themselves with a statement like, 'I am the owner of ○○○.'
The videos come with a warning against malicious speculation and defamation regarding the franchise owners, stating that such actions could lead to legal consequences for infringing on their rights. The comment section has been disabled.
This move appears to be an effort to restore brand trust and support franchise owners amid growing concerns over the impact of recent controversies surrounding Baek Jong-won and The Born Korea.
Baek has faced multiple allegations, including issues related to the pricing of 빽햄 (Baek Ham), false labeling of 감귤맥주 (Citrus Beer) content, failure to disclose food origin, violations of agricultural laws, and inadequate safety management of LPG.
On June 6, Baek announced via his YouTube channel that he would cease all broadcasting activities, expressing his commitment to organizational reform and improved communication with employees to change the corporate culture. He emphasized the urgency of addressing the dire situations faced by franchise owners, stating, 'I have resolved to ensure that not a single franchise owner is left behind.'
In response, The Born Korea has pledged a support program worth approximately 30 billion KRW for franchise owners and is currently providing emergency funds. As part of this initiative, they are also conducting discount events for franchise stores, with the headquarters covering all discount costs.
Currently, police are investigating 14 cases related to Baek Jong-won, including violations of food labeling and hygiene laws, as confirmed by a police spokesperson during a press conference on June 12.
