Baek Ji-young Admits to Having a 'Bad Ear' on Radio Star, Reveals Secrets Behind Mega Hits

On the November 27 episode of MBC's entertainment program Radio Star (라디오스타), singer Baek Ji-young (백지영) candidly acknowledged her reputation for having a 'bad ear' for music. The episode featured a special segment titled 'Sisters, Power Up,' with guests including Kim Ji-yoon (김지윤), Song Ga-in (송가인), and Lee Sa-bae (이사배).
During the show, Baek Ji-young discussed her numerous mega-hit songs, revealing that many of them were tracks she initially hesitated to perform. She specifically mentioned her hit song 'Dash' (대시), explaining that it was released just after her seniors, the group B.E.P (벅 선배님들), had a hit with 'Barefoot Youth' (맨발의 청춘). Baek Ji-young shared that while she enjoyed singing 'Barefoot Youth,' she was concerned about the fast tempo of 'Dash,' which she felt was forced. However, she expressed her current joy about the song's success, stating, "Now, I feel so happy. It's so exciting!"
Another song she was reluctant to perform was 'Like I Got Shot' (총 맞은 것처럼). Baek Ji-young explained that at the time, there were no ballads that started without an introduction, and the use of the word 'gun' made her uncomfortable. She humorously suggested changing the title to something less intense, but ultimately, producer Bang Si-hyuk (방시혁) insisted on keeping the original title.
The conversation elicited laughter from fellow guests, with Jang Do-yeon (장도연) jokingly asking, "Like I got shot, right?" and Kim Gura (김구라) chiming in with, "You really do have a bad ear!"
Baek Ji-young concluded by sharing that despite her initial reservations, she is grateful for the songs that have become significant hits in her career.
