A 48-year-old man, referred to as A, was arrested on June 16 for the murder of a woman he had been stalking in Daegu. The presiding judge at the Daegu District Court's Western Branch, Seo Young-ae, issued a warrant for A's arrest, citing his flight risk and lack of a permanent residence following the crime.

A appeared for a pre-arrest interrogation at the court around 1:40 PM but declined to answer questions from reporters regarding his motives or any messages for the victim's family.

The incident occurred on June 10 at approximately 3:30 AM, when A allegedly killed a woman in her 50s, identified as B, with a knife in an apartment in Daegu's Dalseo District. After the attack, A fled the scene in a vehicle belonging to an acquaintance and traveled to Sejong City, where he took a taxi to a mountain area near his father's grave.

Despite extensive search efforts by the police, which included personnel, search dogs, and drones, A managed to evade capture for several days. Authorities in Sejong City even advised residents to avoid outdoor activities due to concerns over potential criminal activity linked to A.

A was finally apprehended on June 14 at around 10:45 PM after he made a call from a payphone to a friend, revealing his location. He was arrested near a container warehouse in Jochiwon-eup, where he had arranged to meet the acquaintance.

During police questioning, A admitted to the crime, stating that he had descended from the mountains to 'sort everything out' due to mental exhaustion. Notably, A had previously threatened B with a knife in April, leading to police involvement. Although a warrant for his arrest on charges of special intimidation was requested, it was denied by the court at that time, citing A's cooperation with the investigation.

Despite protective measures, including the installation of security cameras at B's apartment entrance, A managed to enter the building by climbing the gas pipes while wearing a mask. Reports indicate that A's motive for the murder stemmed from B's refusal to meet with him.

A는 6월 14일 오후 10시 45분경 친구에게 전화를 걸어 자신의 위치를 알린 후 마침내 체포되었다. 그는 지인과의 만남을 위해 조치원읍의 한 컨테이너 창고 근처에서 체포되었다.

경찰 조사에서 A는 범행을 인정하며 정신적 피로로 인해 '모든 것을 정리하기 위해' 산에서 내려왔다고 진술하였다. 특히 A는 4월에 B를 칼로 위협한 전력이 있어 경찰이 개입한 바 있다. 특별협박 혐의로 체포영장이 청구되었으나, 당시 A의 수사 협조를 이유로 법원에서 기각되었다.

이재명 대통령이 2025년 6월 16일 캐나다 캘거리에 도착하여 즉시 남아프리카와 호주의 지도자들과의 일련의 양자 회의를 개최했다. 오후에 남아프리카 공화국 대통령 시릴 라마포사와의 회의에서 이 대통령은 1992년 외교 관계 수립 이후 한국과 남아프리카 간의 협력이 특히 무역, 투자 및 에너지 분야에서 강화되었음을 강조했다. 라마포사 대통령은 이 대통령에게 이번 11월 남아프리카에서 열리는 G20 정상 회의에 참석해 줄 것을 초대했다.

이후 호주 앤서니 알바니즈 총리와의 회의에서 이 대통령은 한국이 에너지와 자원에 대해 호주에 상당히 의존하고 있음을 언급하며 자원 외교에 대해 논의했다. 그는 알바니즈 총리에게 "최근 전화 통화에서 예상했던 것보다 훨씬 젊고 잘생기셨습니다"라고 칭찬하였고, 알바니즈는 "너무 친절하시네요"라고 응답했다. 두 지도자는 한반도의 평화와 북한 핵 문제에 대한 실질적인 진전을 이루기 위해 소통과 협력을 강화하기로 합의했다.

그날 저녁, 이 대통령과 김혜경 여사는 앨버타 주지사 다니엘 스미스가 주최한 리셉션과 총독 메리 사이먼이 주관한 환영 만찬에 참석했다. 리셉션에서 이 대통령은 라마포사 대통령 및 알바니즈 총리와 미국과의 관세 협상에 대한 의견을 교환한 것으로 전해졌다. 대통령실의 한 고위 관계자는 또 다른 논의 주제가 한국의 민주주의 회복력에 관한 것이었으며, 유엔 사무총장이 한국의 민주적 회복을 칭찬한 것이 라마포사 대통령에게도 공감되었다고 언급했다.

김혜경 여사는 리셉션에서 서양 정장 또는 전통 의상을 요구하는 드레스 코드에 맞춰 연한 노란색 치마와 초록색 저고리를 입고 전통 한복을 착용하여 주목을 받았다. 많은 참석자들이 그녀의 전통 의상 때문에 사진을 요청한 것으로 보인다.
