Bae Doona Shares Behind-the-Scenes Story with Scarlett Johansson on 'Jjanhan Hyung'

In a recent episode of Shin Dong-yeop's YouTube channel, Jjanhan Hyung, actress Bae Doona opened up about her memorable encounter with Scarlett Johansson. The episode, titled 'Bae Doona and Lee Soo-hyun {Jjanhan Hyung} EP. 72: The Dance Weapon Mother-Daughter Duo,' aired on December 16, 2024.

Bae Doona discussed her preferences regarding makeup, stating, "I enjoy getting dressed up and wearing makeup for photoshoots, but I don’t wear makeup when acting." She credited her senior, Ko Hyun-jung, for instilling in her the belief that one can be beautiful without makeup, saying, "My standard of beauty has become less makeup."

Reflecting on her peak years, Bae noted her debut as a magazine model and mentioned contemporaries like Lee Yo-won, Kim Min-hee, Shin Min-hee, and Gong Hyo-jin, highlighting their shared era.

When Shin Dong-yeop pointed out that she was the first Korean to grace the cover of US Vogue, Bae revealed, "My father's phone wallpaper is that photo with Scarlett Johansson. Looking back at old pictures, I honestly think some of them are not great; I have my share of embarrassing moments."

Bae also shared her experiences at international events, saying, "I used to feel nervous, but not anymore. I grew up in Korea and was unfamiliar with the culture of overseas parties. Small talk was particularly challenging for me as I am naturally introverted. However, I have improved significantly through practice."
