Bae Doona Opens Up About Anger and Self-Discovery in Her 40s

Actress Bae Doona has shared her reflections on the changes she has experienced as she enters her 40s. In a recent video titled "Waiting for the Bagel That Won't Come" on the YouTube channel '빠더너스', she candidly discussed her struggles with expressing anger. Bae admitted, "I can't express my anger very gracefully. I often find myself pulling my hair out at night and kicking the blankets in frustration."

She explained that turning 40 has prompted her to prioritize her own needs, stating, "I've started saying things like, 'I won't be the nice girl anymore,' and 'I need to take care of myself first.'" Despite her attempts to communicate her feelings, she feels that words often fail to convey her true emotions, leading her to sometimes choose silence instead.

Bae also reflected on her personal growth, mentioning her pursuit of '추구미' (chugumi), which refers to an ideal or standard she feels is unattainable. "I've given up on extraordinary quick-wittedness. I realize that responding in the moment requires flexibility and adaptability," she shared.

She acknowledged that she often misses opportunities to express herself and even questions the necessity of conflict, noting that unresolved feelings can accumulate over time. "I never thought I would feel this way. I used to think I was a cool person, but it seems that I've been holding back for too long," she remarked.

Bae concluded with an observation from a friend who noted that many people in their 40s in Korea tend to experience heightened emotions. She resonated with this, suggesting that the pressures of conforming to societal expectations from a young age may have contributed to her current feelings.
