K-pop group ATEEZ has made a remarkable entry at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 chart with their latest mini-album, GOLDEN HOUR: Part.3, released on June 13. According to Billboard's announcement on June 22, the top spot was claimed by country artist Morgan Wallen with his album I’m the Problem. 

Since their debut in 2018, ATEEZ has reached the top of the Billboard 200 twice, with two full-length albums and eleven mini-albums. They have now achieved an impressive record of entering the Billboard 200's top 7 for seven consecutive albums, starting from their eighth mini-album in 2022. Lee Soo-man, the key producer and visionary leader of A2O Entertainment and founder of SM Entertainment, met with French President Emmanuel Macron to discuss potential collaborations with the local music industry. Baek Jong-won (59), the CEO of the restaurant franchise The Born Korea, has been referred to the prosecution for violating the Origin Marking Act. This marks the first instance of legal action against the company amid various allegations. On June 4, the Special Judicial Police of the National Agricultural Products Quality Management Service submitted a recommendation for prosecution to the Seoul Western District Prosecutor's Office, which specializes in food and drug safety cases. 

The Born Korea is accused of advertising its main ingredients as domestically sourced while actually using products from China or other imports. For instance, their flagship product, ‘Baek Jong-won's Baekseok Doenjang,’ was marketed as being made using traditional Korean methods, but it was found to contain Chinese-modified meju and imported soybeans and flour. 

Additionally, the ‘Hanshin Pocha Nakji Bokkeum’ was promoted as using domestic garlic, yet it included Chinese garlic in its actual ingredients. The ‘Deopjuk’ product also claimed to use ‘domestic kelp, shrimp, and anchovies,’ but it was confirmed to contain shrimp sourced from Vietnam. 

Earlier in March, the Special Judicial Police issued a corrective order for the deletion and modification of labels on three products, including soy sauce and doenjang. In response, Baek announced at a regular shareholders' meeting that the company would strengthen its origin management system, collaborate with external experts to enhance transparency, and establish an effective internal monitoring system. 

Baek and The Born Korea are also under investigation for other allegations. The police are looking into 14 cases, including violations of the Food Labeling and Advertising Act for falsely advertising the origin of certain products like ‘Chewy Sweet Potato Bread’ and for manufacturing and supplying chicken bone frying equipment without approval, violating food hygiene laws.

3월 초, 특별사법경찰은 간장과 된장을 포함한 세 가지 제품의 라벨 삭제 및 수정에 대한 시정 명령을 내렸다. 이에 백종원은 정기 주주총회에서 회사가 원산지 관리 시스템을 강화하고, 외부 전문가와 협력하여 투명성을 높이며, 효과적인 내부 모니터링 시스템을 구축할 것이라고 발표했다.

백종원과 더본코리아는 다른 혐의에 대해서도 조사를 받고 있다. 경찰은 ‘쫄깃한 고구마 빵’과 같은 특정 제품의 원산지를 허위로 광고한 식품표시 및 광고법 위반, 승인 없이 치킨 뼈 튀김 기계를 제조 및 공급한 식품 위생법 위반 등 14건의 사건을 조사하고 있다.

The Ministry of Employment and Labor in South Korea is set to reform the retirement pension system, which currently holds approximately 430 trillion won, to resemble the National Pension Service (국민연금) as a public pension scheme. This initiative will be implemented in five phases, making it mandatory for all workplaces. Once the process is complete, retirement benefits will only be available as pensions rather than lump-sum payments. Additionally, the government plans to amend the law to allow employees to receive retirement benefits after just three months of work, instead of the current requirement of one year.

According to reports from June 23, the Ministry has presented these proposed changes to the National Planning Committee. As of the end of last year, the retirement pension fund surpassed 431 trillion won and is projected to exceed the size of the National Pension by 2050. The government believes that this reform will enhance retirement security for all workers.

To facilitate this transition, a new Retirement Pension Corporation will be established, and tax incentives will be introduced to prevent early withdrawals. However, the government is cautious about the financial impact on small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and is considering a phased implementation based on company size, starting with large corporations that employ over 300 people.

The retirement benefits system currently includes both lump-sum payments and pension-style payments. By mandating the pension system, the government aims to eliminate the lump-sum payment option, thereby reducing income disparity in retirement and addressing issues related to elderly poverty.

Lump-sum payments can be at risk if a company faces financial difficulties, whereas pension funds must be held in external financial institutions, reducing the likelihood of non-payment. The Ministry emphasized the stability of the pension system in its report.

Despite the planned mandatory implementation, the government recognizes that the transition could be disruptive and will apply the changes gradually based on company size. For instance, the rollout will begin with companies employing over 300 individuals, followed by those with 100-299, 30-99, 5-29, and finally, those with fewer than 5 employees. Currently, 91.7% of companies with over 300 employees have adopted retirement pensions, while only 41.4% of companies with 5-29 employees and 10.4% of those with fewer than 5 employees have done so. To encourage early adoption among smaller firms, the government plans to subsidize 10% of their contributions for three years.

The Ministry is also aware that if many individuals withdraw their pensions before reaching retirement age, the purpose of the reform could be undermined. Currently, there are legal reasons for early withdrawals, such as housing funds. To counter this, the Ministry has proposed tax incentives for those who remain enrolled for over 20 years before receiving their pensions, as well as additional tax benefits for younger workers.

Changes to fund management are also on the horizon, with the Ministry considering allowing investments in venture companies, which were previously prohibited. Unlike the National Pension, retirement pensions are tied to wages, limiting investment options. Allowing investments in domestic unlisted stocks and venture firms is expected to enhance returns and support the growth of startups. According to the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, last year, domestic venture investments reached 11.9 trillion won, and enabling retirement pension investments could significantly expand this market.

The Ministry has reported plans to allow employees to receive retirement benefits after just three months of work, emphasizing the need for stronger social safety nets and protection for vulnerable labor market groups. Starting next year, the Ministry will conduct cost-benefit analyses and social dialogues, aiming for legislative action by 2028.

If the government proceeds with this plan, it would mean that nearly all workers, including short-term employees, would be entitled to retirement benefits after just three months of work. This could significantly increase the financial burden on companies and raise concerns about a trend where employees might leave jobs after receiving their retirement benefits. Critics argue that this change could undermine the system designed to reward long-term service. A representative from a company expressed concerns about the financial strain on small businesses, which are already grappling with rising minimum wages and the added burden of retirement benefits. The Ministry acknowledged these concerns, stating that the legal implications of retirement benefits and the economic burden on small businesses will be key issues requiring social consensus.

계획된 의무 시행에도 불구하고 정부는 전환이 혼란을 초래할 수 있음을 인식하고 있으며, 회사 규모에 따라 점진적으로 변화를 적용할 것이다. 예를 들어, 300명 이상의 직원을 고용하는 기업부터 시작하여 100-299명, 30-99명, 5-29명, 마지막으로 5명 미만의 기업으로 진행될 예정이다. 현재 300명 이상의 직원을 둔 기업의 91.7%가 퇴직연금을 도입했지만, 5-29명 기업은 41.4%, 5명 미만 기업은 10.4%에 불과하다. 중소기업의 조기 도입을 장려하기 위해 정부는 3년 동안 이들의 기여금의 10%를 보조할 계획이다.

고용노동부는 직원들이 단 3개월 근무 후 퇴직 급여를 받을 수 있도록 할 계획을 보고하며, 취약한 노동 시장 집단에 대한 강력한 사회 안전망과 보호의 필요성을 강조했다. 내년부터 고용노동부는 비용-편익 분석 및 사회적 대화를 실시하여 2028년까지 입법 조치를 목표로 할 것이다.

They agreed on the necessity of establishing a specialized treatment center capable of providing long-term support for over ten years, leading Suga to pledge a donation of 5 billion KRW to Severance Hospital, marking the largest donation ever made by an artist to the Severance Children's Hospital and Yonsei Medical Center.

Following this, Suga and Professor Cheon discussed the construction of the treatment center and the development of a music-based social skills training program for children and adolescents with ASD from late last year to early this year. This collaboration resulted in the creation of the 'MIND' program, which integrates musical content into existing social skills training.

The MIND program stands for enhancing interaction and sensory experiences through music, providing opportunities for social relationship formation and communication, learning to build connections within a community, and respecting individual diversity while fostering a cohesive society. Participants in this program will engage in playing instruments, singing, writing to music, and expressing their emotions and thoughts through music and writing.

From March to June of this year, Suga dedicated his weekends to working directly with children with ASD to develop the program. He played instruments alongside the children, encouraging them to match rhythms and harmonies, and facilitating emotional expression through music. He also taught them how to play instruments themselves.

As the program progressed, the children's emotional and verbal expressions significantly improved, and they developed social skills through collaboration and patience. For instance, Oh (10 years old) and Lee (12 years old), who previously showed little engagement during language therapy, began to select instruments independently and demonstrated talent in keeping rhythm.

During group sessions, diverse emotional expressions emerged. Kim (18 years old), who played the saxophone and had limited verbal and emotional expression, began to show emotions through facial expressions during collaborative activities and responded positively to the therapist's attention and praise.

The program has proven effective in helping children with limited verbal abilities form social relationships.

In the future, the Min Yoongi Treatment Center plans to enhance the MIND program and establish a self-sustaining music project model. To ensure the program's sustainability and professionalism, they will also systematize training for experts in various therapeutic fields.

Once construction of the Min Yoongi Treatment Center is completed in September, new regular program sessions will be introduced. These will include music-based social skills training for individuals with ASD and other developmental disabilities, as well as expanded sessions for existing therapies like ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis) and language therapy. Additionally, clinical research and academic publications will be pursued to objectively validate the effectiveness of the MIND program.

Professor Cheon expressed gratitude for Suga's genuine contributions and volunteer work over the past few months, stating, "I am deeply impressed by Suga's consistent and sincere attitude. The ultimate goal of the Min Yoongi Treatment Center and the MIND program is to help children with autism grow into independent and healthy members of society through music, while also alleviating biases and improving perceptions of disabilities."

This legal action follows a press conference held by Kim Se-yeon on May 7, where he allegedly used AI-generated deep voice technology to present fabricated audio recordings. During the conference, he claimed that Kim Soo-hyun had been in a relationship with Kim Sae-ron since middle school and accused Kim Soo-hyun's team of attempting to bribe a whistleblower with 4 billion KRW to suppress evidence, even suggesting that they hired hitmen to eliminate the whistleblower when he refused. 

The law firm stated, 'The actions of Kim Se-yeon and the family of Kim Sae-ron go beyond merely spreading false information; they have also accused Kim Soo-hyun of defamation and violations of child welfare laws, which constitutes a clear act of defamation.' They further asserted that fabricating evidence is a serious crime, and using such evidence to file criminal charges is an even graver offense. 

Since March, Kim Soo-hyun and the family of Kim Sae-ron have been embroiled in a dispute regarding the timeline of their alleged relationship. The family claims that Kim Sae-ron was in a romantic relationship with Kim Soo-hyun starting in 2016 when she was just 15 years old, while Kim Soo-hyun's side contends that their relationship only began after she turned 18, specifically from the summer of 2019 to the fall of 2020. Kim Soo-hyun has publicly denied these allegations in a press conference. 

The legal battles continue, with Kim Sae-ron's family having previously filed charges against Kim Soo-hyun for violations of child welfare laws and defamation. In response, Kim Soo-hyun's team has also filed additional lawsuits against Kim Se-yeon for defamation under the Information and Communications Network Act and against Kim Sae-ron's family for the same reasons. They are also pursuing 12 billion KRW in damages.
