Arrest Warrant Issued for Individuals Attempting to Extort Son Heung-min

An arrest warrant has been issued for a former partner of South Korean national football team captain Son Heung-min (33, Tottenham Hotspur) and an accomplice, who allegedly attempted to extort money by claiming she was pregnant with his child. On May 17, Judge Yoon Won-mook of the Seoul Central District Court conducted a hearing regarding the warrant for the 20-year-old woman, identified as Yang, who faces charges of extortion, and a 40-year-old man, identified as Yong, who is accused of attempted extortion. The judge expressed concerns about the possibility of evidence tampering and flight risk.
Yang reportedly sent a fabricated ultrasound image to Son's representatives last June, claiming she was pregnant, and subsequently received 300 million KRW (approximately $250,000) from him. It is believed that Son's team complied with the extortion demands due to fears of the potential impact on his career and the team if the false claims became public.
After parting ways with Son, Yang began a relationship with Yong, who later discovered that she had received money from Son's camp. Yong then threatened to expose this information unless he was paid 70 million KRW (around $58,000). In response, Son's team decided to take action and filed a police report on May 7, stating they would no longer tolerate the false allegations.
