Anticipation Builds for the Upcoming Occult Film 'Black Nuns'

The upcoming occult film 'Black Nuns' (검은 수녀들), directed by Kwon Hyuk-jae and produced by Film House Jip, is set to continue the trend of successful series in theaters. As a sequel to the hit film 'The Priests' (검은 사제들), which attracted 5.44 million viewers, 'Black Nuns' is expected to follow in the footsteps of other popular series like 'The Outlaws 4' (범죄도시4) and 'Veteran 2' (베테랑2) in the new year.
The 'Outlaws' series, featuring the intense detective Ma Seok-do (마동석), has captivated audiences since its debut in 2017, culminating in the release of its fourth installment this year, which has garnered a strong fanbase. Similarly, 'Veteran' has been well-received for its thrilling narrative centered around detective Seo Do-cheol (황정민) and his team, with the second film released this year also achieving box office success.
Building on this solid foundation, 'Black Nuns' tells the story of nuns who embark on a forbidden ritual to confront the re-emergence of the 12 manifestations, following the absence of the two priests Kim Beom-sin (김윤석) and Choi Jun-ho (강동원). The film explores the lengths to which these characters will go to save a boy possessed by a powerful evil spirit.
In a unique twist, 'Black Nuns' features nuns who are not authorized to perform exorcisms due to Catholic doctrine, which states that only ordained priests can conduct such rituals. The character Sister Unia (송혜교) is determined to save the boy despite the risks, while Sister Michaela (전여빈) assists her, and Father Paolo (이진욱) opposes their actions. The distinct personalities of these characters are expected to heighten the film's tension.
Set to release on January 24, 2025, 'Black Nuns' promises to deliver fresh entertainment with its innovative characters and unpredictable plot, marking a decade since the original 'The Priests' opened new doors in the occult genre. The film features a talented cast including Song Hye-kyo, Jeon Yeo-bin, Lee Jin-wook, Heo Jun-ho, and Moon Woo-jin, all under the direction of Kwon Hyuk-jae, known for works like 'Hae-sul-sa' and 'Count.'
