Anticipation Builds for KBS2's 'Suspicious Woman' as Premiere Approaches

The excitement surrounding KBS2's upcoming drama 'Suspicious Woman' (수상한 그녀) is palpable as director Park Yong-soon and writer Heo Seung-min share their insights ahead of the show's premiere on December 18. This new Wednesday-Thursday drama tells the story of a seventy-year-old grandmother, Oh Mal-soon, who magically transforms into her twenty-year-old self, Oh Doo-ri. With a renewed chance to pursue her dreams of becoming a singer, she embarks on a journey of romance and personal growth. This series is a remake of the popular film of the same name, featuring expanded characters and storylines that have captured the attention of potential viewers.
As the premiere date draws near, director Park Yong-soon expressed his desire to create a heartfelt human and family drama. He shared, "I have always wanted to work on a human drama or family drama. Personally, if I could, I would love to gift my parents through this work." He also noted that the drama serves as a letter of reflection to his family, addressing issues such as mother-daughter conflicts and broader generational communication challenges.
Writer Heo Seung-min highlighted the differences between the film and the drama, stating, "This time, we have a real woman in Oh Doo-ri, rather than a grandmother pretending to be young. With over 8 million viewers having already seen the film, it was essential to have a clear reason for adapting it into a drama." He expressed a desire to present new stories that go beyond the film's emotional impact and humor, despite the challenges faced during production.
Reflecting on the changes over the past decade, director Park emphasized the importance of portraying the hopes and dreams of the elderly, as well as the beauty of love that comes with youth. He noted, "If we could return to youth, I wanted to express the honest realization of dreams and love stories that arise from feeling young again." Heo added that they aimed to address generational conflicts and the unique charm of the characters while avoiding outdated tropes that might make viewers uncomfortable.
Heo Seung-min expressed a special fondness for the character of Oh Mal-soon, stating, "Dressed as Oh Doo-ri, Mal-soon embodies a charm that can only be found in this drama. She shows that one can still be lovable, shy, and cute at any age. I hope viewers see that even as we age, we can communicate with younger generations and remain powerful and edgy."
Director Park also shared his gratitude for the cast and crew, noting the positive atmosphere on set. He remarked, "I am so thankful to be working with such kind and talented actors and staff. The bright and cheerful nature of the drama made the filming process enjoyable, and I believe this energy will resonate with the audience."
In closing, Park expressed his hope that viewers would find joy and healing through 'Suspicious Woman,' while Heo urged those familiar with the film not to approach the drama with preconceived notions. He encouraged audiences to enjoy the unique blend of flavors that 'Suspicious Woman' offers, distinct from other genre dramas.
KBS2's 'Suspicious Woman' is set to premiere on December 18 at 9:50 PM.
