Announcer Son Jung-eun Opens Up About Personal Struggles on KBS Joy's 'Ask Anything'

On January 13, 2025, Son Jung-eun (손정은), a former MBC announcer, candidly shared her personal challenges during her appearance on KBS Joy's 'Ask Anything' (무엇이든 물어보살). She revealed that she has been a freelancer for three years after leaving her job, stating, "I have a long history in news, which has led to a fixed image of me as cold and serious. In reality, I am cheerful and a bit clumsy. I might be the announcer whose on-screen persona differs the most from my true self."

Son also opened up about her father's passing six years ago and her subsequent divorce the following year. She expressed that despite always appearing bright and cheerful at work, she felt an emptiness inside, prompting her to take a break from her career.

During the show, fellow guest Seo Jang-hoon (서장훈) humorously noted that the current trends favor her situation, while Lee Soo-geun (이수근) added that she has about seven potential programs lined up. Son showcased her talent by attempting a breath-holding challenge and singing 'Brown Memories' (갈색추억), which elicited laughter from the hosts.

Seo advised her to let go of her preconceived notions and emphasized that younger audiences may not have a fixed image of her if they haven't followed the news closely. He concluded by highlighting the importance of honesty and sincerity in her approach, noting that 'Ask Anything' thrives on genuine conversations rather than grand consultations.
