Annie, Daughter of Shinsegae's CEO, Pursues Music Career Against Family's Wishes

Annie (문서윤), the daughter of Shinsegae's CEO Jeong Yoo-kyung, is set to debut with the mixed-gender group All Day Project. In a documentary shared on the group's official social media on June 13, she revealed her journey to becoming a singer despite her family's opposition.
Annie first dreamed of being a singer at the age of seven after watching the music video for 'Lollipop' by 2NE1 and BIGBANG. She described the experience as shocking and transformative, stating, "A new world opened up, and I was determined to do what they were doing."
When she expressed her desire to her mother, Jeong Yoo-kyung, she was met with laughter and a dismissive, "That’s impossible." This response made Annie feel discouraged. A few years later, when she brought up her dream again, her mother reiterated her disapproval, saying, "That’s not a realistic idea. Absolutely not." Annie referred to this moment as her "first heartbreak" in life.
As she entered high school, Annie faced even more resistance from her family. However, she remained resolute and her mother agreed to help persuade the family if Annie got accepted into college. Annie dedicated herself to her studies, sacrificing sleep to prepare for entrance exams, and ultimately gained admission to Columbia University in New York. Her mother had doubted her commitment, thinking that with her daily dance practice, Annie wouldn’t have time to study.
Annie acknowledged that many people might doubt her sincerity about pursuing a music career, but she is determined to prove her dedication. "I want to show how earnest I am about this dream, and I feel grateful for every step closer to debuting. I’ve been working hard every day to make this happen," she said.
All Day Project is set to debut with their first single 'FAMOUS' on June 23, with a pre-release of the title track on June 16.
