An Gwi-ryeong of the Democratic Party Fined for Election Law Violation

An Gwi-ryeong (안귀령), the spokesperson for the Democratic Party of Korea, has been fined 700,000 KRW for violating election laws during the 22nd National Assembly elections. The Seoul Northern District Court's Criminal Division 11, presided over by Judge Lee Dong-sik, announced the penalty on the 25th, following a ruling on the 22nd regarding An's actions prior to the official campaign period.

On March 6, before the official campaign period began, An was accused of conducting electioneering at a senior citizens' cultural center in Dobong-gu, Seoul, while wearing campaign attire and using a microphone to declare, "I have come as a candidate for the Democratic Party's National Assembly. I will work hard for Dobong-gu in the future."

Later, on March 12, she attended a local singing class where she held a microphone and stated, "I look forward to your support," before singing, which led to a stern warning from the election commission. On March 16, she participated in the opening ceremony of the campaign office for Oh Gi-hyung (오기형), the Democratic Party candidate for Dobong, where she again used a microphone to express, "I believe Oh Gi-hyung is the worker needed for Dobong."

An Gwi-ryeong ran for the Dobong-gap constituency in the 22nd National Assembly elections but was unsuccessful. The court noted that An had engaged in electioneering using amplification devices three times before the official campaign period, which constituted a serious violation, although it concluded that her actions did not significantly impact the election results.
