Allegations of Domestic Violence Against Taiwanese Actress 서희원 Emerge After Her Death

Allegations have surfaced claiming that 서희원, the wife of Korean entertainer 구준엽 and a Taiwanese actress, suffered domestic violence during her life. On February 5, Chinese actress 장잉잉, who had an affair with 서희원’s ex-husband 왕소비, made these claims on her personal account, stating that 서희원 was subjected to abuse by 왕소비.
장잉잉 alleged that 서희원 supported 왕소비's business financially and risked her life to give birth to their children. However, she claimed that 왕소비 mocked 서희원 for her post-pregnancy body, calling her a 'seal' and would glare at her for eating more food. Furthermore, she accused 왕소비 of physically assaulting 서희원, her sisters, and friends during her pregnancy, and claimed that 서희원’s mother and sister were brainwashed into believing they should harm her out of jealousy.
These revelations have drawn significant public attention, especially since 왕소비 had reportedly continued to harass 서희원 even after their divorce in 2021. The couple married in 2011 and their divorce was marked by ongoing legal disputes over child custody, asset division, and alimony. During this time, 왕소비 spread rumors about 서희원, including allegations of infidelity with 구준엽 and drug use, which led to defamation lawsuits against him.
Following 서희원’s death on February 2, reportedly from acute pneumonia while traveling in Japan, 왕소비's demeanor shifted dramatically. He publicly referred to her as his 'eternal family' and requested positive stories about her, even commenting on a past video of them together, expressing that he missed her.
This sudden change in attitude has led netizens to speculate that 왕소비 may be attempting to gain access to 서희원’s substantial estate, which is estimated to be worth around 1.2 billion KRW. Under Taiwanese law, if 서희원 did not leave a will, her estate would be divided equally among her two children and 구준엽. However, since 구준엽 is not the biological father, 왕소비 could claim custody of the children, which would allow him to inherit two-thirds of 서희원’s estate.
As a result, there are discussions about whether 구준엽 will initiate legal action against 왕소비. 서희원 had previously filed a lawsuit against 왕소비 for failing to pay the agreed-upon alimony and living expenses after their divorce. Although 서희원 has passed, the executor of her estate intends to continue the lawsuit, leading to speculation that 구준엽 may step in to finalize the legal proceedings on her behalf.
구준엽 was present with family during 서희원’s final moments and plans to return to Taiwan with her remains on February 6.
