Aespa's Karina Addresses Fans Amid Political Controversy

On June 9, Karina of the K-pop group Aespa reached out to her fans through the communication platform Bubble, expressing her feelings after a recent political controversy. She stated, "I’ve kept you waiting for a long time. I practiced and prepared really hard during this time. I’m sorry for worrying you, and I’m grateful. How is everyone doing?" She added, "I missed you all so much."

The controversy arose when Karina posted a photo on May 28, wearing a red outfit with the number '2' on it, which led to speculation online that she was endorsing a political candidate ahead of the 21st presidential election in South Korea. The post was deleted about two hours later.

Following the backlash, Karina clarified the next day, saying, "I had no such intention. I felt I needed to address this misunderstanding as it was growing and my fans were worried. I will be more careful and attentive in the future. I apologize again for causing concern."

SM Entertainment, Aespa's agency, also issued a statement, apologizing for any distress caused by Karina's post. They emphasized that it was simply a casual update with no ulterior motives, and that Karina recognized the potential for misunderstanding and promptly removed the post.

In other news, Aespa is set to release their new single "Dirty Work" on June 27 at 1 PM.
