Actress Oh Na-ra Dives into Comedy with 'Villain's Country'

Actress Oh Na-ra has taken on a transformative role in the new KBS2 sitcom 'Villain's Country' (빌런의 나라), which premiered on March 19, 2025. The show, written by Chae Woo and Park Kwang-yeon and directed by Kim Young-jo and Choi Jeong-eun, features a blend of humor and warmth, showcasing the chaotic yet endearing lives of K-Zoomer sisters and their quirky families.

In this 30-minute sitcom, Oh Na-ra plays the titular character, embodying a fiercely competitive housewife who lives as if there’s no tomorrow. She is the wife of Seo Hyun-cheol's character and the mother of two children. Known for her roles in popular dramas like 'Alchemy of Souls' (환혼), 'Racket Boys' (라켓소년단), 'The Lady in Dignity' (99억의 여자), and 'SKY Castle', Oh Na-ra is making her sitcom debut under the direction of Kim Young-jo, with whom she previously collaborated on 'The Lady in Dignity'.

From the very first episode, Oh Na-ra's comedic talent shone through. Her character's unpredictable antics provided both tension and laughter, as she humorously confronted situations like her husband collapsing and her unconventional parenting methods, such as spraying water on her son to wake him up. This portrayal deviates from the typical 'mother' image often seen in dramas, hinting at her character's 'villainous' nature.

However, Oh Na-ra's character is not just a one-dimensional villain. After discovering her husband’s promotion is being sabotaged by a colleague, she takes matters into her own hands, leading to a satisfying revelation. The balance of her fierce yet loving nature is evident as she navigates her relationship with her husband, who desires his own space.

Oh Na-ra fully committed to her role, delivering a performance that was both relatable and humorous without being over-the-top. Her ability to manage comedic timing and emotional depth was impressive, especially for her first sitcom experience.

The 30-minute format of 'Villain's Country' kept the pacing brisk and engaging, successfully maintaining a continuous flow of humor throughout its premiere. Following the first episode, Oh Na-ra shared on her social media, "The veil of the drama has finally been lifted, and I’ve been receiving a lot of messages asking if this is my retirement work."

Fans can look forward to more of Oh Na-ra's dynamic performance and chemistry with the cast in 'Villain's Country', airing every Wednesday and Thursday at 9:50 PM on KBS2.
