Actress Cha Cheong-hwa Steps Down from Three Projects After Pregnancy Announcement

Actress Cha Cheong-hwa has revealed that she has withdrawn from three major projects after discovering her pregnancy. In a recent video on Kim Jung-nan's YouTube channel titled 'Come on, Ladies of Crash Landing on You,' Cha shared her experience. She stated, 'After I found out I was pregnant, I stepped down from three significant roles that I was set to take on. I was concerned about performing action scenes while pregnant, as it could pose risks to my co-stars.'

Cha expressed her initial excitement about playing a villain, saying, 'I was thrilled to finally get a chance to play a bad character! But since I had never been pregnant before, I didn't know how my body would change, so I thought I could manage it.'

However, she soon realized the challenges that lay ahead, saying, 'I thought I could handle it, but the reality on set was chaotic. I had to consider how to adjust the action scenes and underwater scenes, which led to my decision to step back.'

In a light-hearted moment, fellow actress Kim Sun-young joked, 'Give me that role! I think I could have done well,' to which Cha replied, 'That role wasn't meant for me anymore.'

Cha also shared her emotional journey, stating, 'I even went through costume fittings, and it brought me to tears. I felt that my blessing was becoming a burden for everyone, and I thought it was best to step down.' She recounted her mother's comforting words: 'Cheong-hwa, you are carrying the most precious project of your life. Why be upset about it? You can always return to acting later. If you can't do it now, then it's not meant for you.'

Since then, Cha has focused on prenatal care for her child, reflecting on how her life has shifted from being centered on acting to nurturing a new life. 'I've spent my life focusing on acting, but now there's another being growing inside me. I cherish the time I have to practice my craft even more now.'

Cha Cheong-hwa married a younger businessman in 2023 and announced her pregnancy just three months later, welcoming her child last year.
