Actor Song Young-kyu Faces Consequences After DUI Charge

Actor Song Young-kyu (송영규) has recently been charged with driving under the influence (DUI), leading to significant repercussions for his ongoing performances and television projects. The news of his charge, which was filed on July 19, 2025, has prompted his theater production and drama teams to take immediate action.

According to the Yongin Dongbu Police Station, Song was apprehended for driving while intoxicated from Giheung-gu to his home in Cheoin-gu. He had initially called a designated driver, but the driver left during a conversation with a friend. Believing he was close to home, Song decided to drive himself.

Upon the news breaking on July 25, Song expressed deep regret, stating, "I am truly sorry. I ruined everything in a moment of carelessness." He added that he was not feeling well and had taken medication, which he claimed contributed to his poor judgment, although he acknowledged that this was no excuse for his actions.

As a result of this incident, Song has officially stepped down from his role in the play 'Shakespeare in Love' (셰익스피어 인 러브), which was scheduled to run until September 14. He will no longer perform after the show on July 25, expressing his sorrow to those who supported him.

Additionally, Song is involved in two ongoing dramas: ENA's 'I Shopping' (아이쇼핑) and SBS's 'Try: We Become a Miracle' (트라이: 우리는 기적이 된다). The production team for 'I Shopping' stated that filming has already been completed, and they will edit his scenes to minimize any impact on the storyline and viewer understanding.

The production team for 'Try: We Become a Miracle' also released a statement, noting that the drama was pre-produced in March and that the upcoming episodes are ready for broadcast, including on global OTT platforms. Song's role is minor, and discussions are underway to reduce his screen time without disrupting the main plot.
