Actor Cha Kang-seok Warns Against Defamation Amid Controversy Over President Yoon Suk-yeol's Impeachment

Actor Cha Kang-seok recently attended a rally opposing the impeachment of President Yoon Suk-yeol, where he issued a stern warning to those who have tarnished his reputation, stating, "Those who have defamed me should be prepared for the consequences." On December 15, he expressed gratitude to both supporters and critics via his personal social media account.

Cha emphasized that he would no longer engage with individuals who resort to personal attacks and harsh criticism. He stated, "As I have always said, my opinions are not always correct, but I have lived my life without ever paying a fine."

He further indicated that he might take legal action against those spreading malicious comments, asserting, "Whether the information is false or factual, those who have damaged my reputation should brace themselves."

On December 14, Cha participated in a rally near the National Assembly in Yeouido, Seoul, organized by the 'Garo-Setro Research Institute,' where he described himself as an actor being subjected to a witch hunt in these troubling times.

He urged attendees not to feel ashamed of their votes, stating, "The president we elected is fighting alone at the forefront for the democracy of South Korea. Many citizens are currently exposed to misinformation and are quick to hate and criticize him. However, if we hold firmly to our beliefs during these challenging times, warmer days will return."

Cha acknowledged that while the president may not be perfect, he is undoubtedly fighting for freedom and democracy in South Korea. He encouraged people not to hide their voices, adding, "There are groups led by criminals right now. Our fight is just beginning."

Previously, Cha faced backlash after defending President Yoon's declaration of martial law on social media. He later clarified his stance, stating, "My support for the president's martial law was based solely on the reasons provided for its declaration. I do not harbor hatred towards those with differing opinions, including members of the Democratic Party."

He expressed regret for any hurt caused by his comments, stating, "I apologize to those who were offended by my careless remarks. I will live with a sense of remorse towards those who sacrificed for democracy."

Cha also made it clear that while he apologizes for supporting the martial law, he does not regret his stance on apprehending spies, emphasizing, "Is there anyone who would welcome martial law?" He revealed that he was dismissed from his position as a contract lecturer due to the controversy surrounding his comments.

Meanwhile, the impeachment motion against President Yoon Suk-yeol, related to the 'December 3 Martial Law Incident,' was passed in the National Assembly on December 14.
