Active Police Officer Arrested for Brandishing Weapon in Public

An active police officer was apprehended for carrying a weapon in public during the day. The Namwon Police Station in North Jeolla Province reported on July 11 that a police officer, identified as A (in his 20s) from the Jeonju Wansan Police Station, has been charged with possession of a weapon in a public place.

On July 3, A was seen entering a restaurant in Namwon while dressed in civilian clothes and wielding a dangerous weapon. He was also reported to have swung the weapon in the air while standing in the middle of the sidewalk after leaving the restaurant. However, it was noted that he did not threaten any passersby directly.

Local residents alerted the police, stating that a man was seen carrying a knife. Upon arrival, officers confirmed A's identity as an active police officer, who was on medical leave at the time.

A police spokesperson stated, "We have handed A over to his family for psychiatric evaluation and treatment. We will conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding this incident with his family and colleagues from the police station."
