A 30-Year-Old Trainee Shares His Troubling Childhood on MBN's 'Oh Eun-young Stay'

On June 23, MBN's '오은영 스테이' (Oh Eun-young Stay) premiered, featuring eight participants grappling with various personal issues. Among them was a '30-year-old trainee' who revealed, "I spent my twenties training but couldn't break through to debut." He highlighted his struggles with adult men, sharing, "I had a long period of feeling uncomfortable around adult males. I would break into a cold sweat at the sight of fights or swearing. My father was an alcoholic and was abusive since I was in kindergarten," he confessed, fighting back tears.
The trainee recounted, "Our home was often in disarray, and police visits were a regular occurrence. My sister took the brunt of the abuse for my mother, even bleeding from the beatings. I witnessed my mother being choked and making poor choices. This all happened during my elementary and middle school years. I was told to work part-time handing out flyers from elementary school because my father’s business was seized. I often spent nights alone with just a candle until midnight." His story shocked everyone present.
He continued, "My father also had affairs. I tried to escape whenever he was absent. One day, I returned from school to find police and neighbors gathered outside our home. The place was already destroyed; my father had thrown everything around. I called the police myself and we moved afterward."
Dr. Oh Eun-young advised, "When there are alcohol issues in parents, the likelihood of problems in children is high. Not a drop of alcohol should be consumed." The trainee acknowledged his awareness of this, stating he only occasionally enjoys a beer.
He also shared his experiences in the entertainment industry, saying, "I was unaware that there are both fraudulent and reputable agencies. When I told my agency head I wanted to leave, he said, 'You have no father; do you think you can survive in this industry? They'll spread rumors about you.' My heart raced at that moment. It was the first and last time I sought advice from various places. Since then, I have been training at a better agency."
