34 Arrested for Operating Illegal Gambling Ring in Southeast Asia

A total of 34 individuals have been apprehended by police for their involvement in an illegal remote gambling operation based in Southeast Asia. The Cyber Crime Investigation Unit of the Chungbuk Provincial Police Agency announced on the 3rd that they have arrested four key operators, including a man identified as A (in his 40s), while 30 others, including dealers, have been sent for prosecution without detention.

From 2022 to last year, A and his associates allegedly established offices in Southeast Asia to facilitate remote participation in games like baccarat through multiple YouTube channels. They reportedly operated over 20 channels, broadcasting live streams and managing bets on behalf of domestic participants via chat.

The total amount wagered during their operation is estimated to be around 30 billion KRW (approximately $22 million USD). Investigations revealed that the group had organized roles for online consultations, currency exchanges, and financial management, indicating a structured approach to their illegal activities.

A police spokesperson stated, "We first apprehended the suspects located in South Korea and are committed to tracking down the remaining operators involved in this scheme."
