2024 MBC Entertainment Awards Set to Air Tonight

The day has arrived for the '2024 MBC Entertainment Awards,' and all eyes are on who will take home the prestigious Grand Prize. The ceremony will be broadcast live today, January 28, at 8:20 PM KST.

Originally scheduled for December 29, the event was postponed due to a tragic accident involving a Jeju Air passenger plane at Muan International Airport. Following a period of mourning, discussions about rescheduling the awards for the Lunar New Year holiday led to the confirmation of today's event.

This year's hosts are Jeon Hyun-moo, Lee Jang-woo, and Yoon Eun-hye. Jeon Hyun-moo returns for his seventh consecutive year as a host, while Lee Jang-woo makes his debut as an awards show MC. Yoon Eun-hye, who gained attention for her performance with the legendary girl group Baby V.O.X, will also be a prominent host. Initially, actress Hyeri from Girl's Day was set to host, but she had to withdraw due to prior filming commitments during the holiday.

In addition to the hosts, a special performance featuring nostalgic 1990s vibes will be presented by Kim Dae-ho, Park Ji-hyun, and Lim Woo-il, among other exciting acts, promising a festive atmosphere.

The show expected to garner the most awards this year is 'I Live Alone' (나 혼자 산다), which won eight trophies last year. The program continues to generate significant buzz, and attention is particularly focused on Koo Seung-hwan, who has shared his romantic life with his pet dog, Kkotbuni, on the show.

'I Live Alone' has produced three consecutive winners of the Rookie of the Year award from 2021 to 2023, and Koo Seung-hwan's participation has reportedly increased the show's popularity by 22.5%, raising expectations for his potential win.

The Best Couple award is also a hot topic, with nominees including Park Na-rae and Yang Se-hyung from 'Home Alone,' Ki-an 84, Kim Dae-ho, and Lee Jang-woo from 'I Live Alone,' Yoo Jae-suk and Haha from 'How Do You Play?,' and others.

While the nominees for the Grand Prize have not been officially announced, Jeon Hyun-moo and Yoo Jae-suk are considered strong contenders. Jeon has been active in various new entertainment programs, while Yoo, a 19-time award winner, has been a steady presence on 'How Do You Play?'. Lee Jang-woo, who won Best Actor at last year's MBC Entertainment Awards, is also seen as a dark horse with his recent projects.
