2024 MBC Entertainment Awards Canceled Due to Tragic Accident

The 2024 MBC 방송연예대상 (MBC Entertainment Awards) has been officially canceled. MBC announced on December 29 that the ceremony, originally scheduled for 8:30 PM, would not take place due to an emergency news broadcast. The network expressed its apologies to viewers for the inconvenience. Initially, MBC had planned to proceed with the awards after canceling only the photo session that was set for 7 PM. However, in light of the severity of a recent incident, they decided to cancel the entire event. Earlier that day, a tragic accident occurred at Muan International Airport in Jeollanam-do, where a flight from Bangkok skidded off the runway during landing. The aircraft, Jeju Air flight 7C2216, was carrying 175 passengers and 6 crew members, totaling 181 individuals. As of now, reports indicate that 85 people have died, 94 are missing, and 2 have sustained injuries. Jeju Air has issued a statement expressing deep condolences to those affected by the accident and committed to doing everything possible to assist in the recovery efforts.
